This Sunday We Wish Temmo Farewell!
Please join us this Sunday after the 10:00 a.m. service, for a reception on the patio as we say thank you and farewell to parishioner and Associate Music Director, Temmo Korishelli.

Temmo leaves us due to budget constraints, after 26 years of service to All Saints' Music programs.
Temmo has worked in the roles of section leader, cantor, assistant music director, interim music director, associate music director, and music director. He has also occasionally served as a thurifer and crucifer.

During the 10:00 a.m. service, Rev. Aime will offer a special sending blessing to Temmo. You are invited to contribute to a "farewell purse" for Temmo. Simply note on your check to All Saints by-the-Sea that it is "For Temmo," and place it in the offering plate. (Purse contributions will not be deductible.)

A Hollywood Dream: Saul & Karen Pick
This week marked the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Together with our friends at Network for Africa, we mark this significant anniversary by paying tribute to a Holocaust survivor, Saul Pick, and his wife Karen. Thank you, Karen, for sharing Saul's story with Network for Africa who shared it with us.

Saul Pick was born into a large Jewish family in 1917 in what is now Poland. When World War Two broke out he was an engineering student, but he was drafted into the Polish Army and captured by the Russians (who were then in a pact with the Nazis). Saul escaped from the Russian POW camp, but was captured again, this time by the Nazis. He escaped once more but eventually his luck ran out when he was sent to Dachau. The camp was disease-ridden, and Saul later said he survived by washing each day, even if it was in the snow, to keep clean. His wife Karen recalls that to the day Saul died, he wouldn't allow anyone else to use his towels and insisted on washing them separately. Continue reading

Book Club's March Selection Announced:
The Book Thief

The March selection for the ASBTS book club is The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. Did you love the movie? Well, the book is better! Narrated by Death, the book is set in Nazi Germany, a place and time when the narrator notes he was extremely busy. It describes a young girl's relationship with her foster parents, the other residents of their neighbourhood, and a young Jewish man who hides in her home during the escalation of World War II. Everyone is warmly invited to join the book club. Contact the Rev. Vicki with any questions.

It's hard to believe this photo was in the archives because these cowgirls look exactly the same! Karen Dietz, Pamela Hawes,
and Gail Harling are just the cutest at a western themed party.

An Invitation to Serve:

Transition House, Sunday, February 8

Everyone is invited to participate in this monthly feeding ministry. Next Sunday evening, February 8 is All Saints' night at Transition House. Many hands are needed as we prepare dinner at 5:30 p.m. and serve it at 6:30 p.m. Transition House is located at 425 E. Ortega Street. Please visit the Information Table on the patio after service today if you will help or are interested in learning more about this ministry. Contact: Pat Murdy or David Boyd. Transition House is dedicated to the solution of family homelessness in the Santa Barbara community. All Saints has been blessed to be able to support this vital community organization for years and you are invited to join in this tradition. Each month, parishioners from All Saints prepare and serve dinner to approximately 58 homeless family members.
Annual Golf Tournament Set for Monday, May 4

All Saints' annual Jim Bower Outreach Golf Tournament is scheduled for Monday, May 4, 2015.  This event is currently the major fundraiser supporting Outreach ministries at All Saints.  There is plenty to do in preparation even if you are not available to attend the event.  This is truly a community effort and the more helping hands along the way, the more successful this event will be! Volunteers are needed - no golf experience is required. Please contact Sally Messerlian if you can help!

Wise Women to Meet Sunday, February 22

Wise Women (and men) will meet Sunday, February 22 after the 10:00 a.m. service in the Parish Hall for fellowship, lunch and a Ted Talk by Lesley Hazelton, "Doubt is Essential to Faith." When Lesley Hazleton was writing a biography of Muhammad, she was struck by something: The night he received the revelation of the Koran, according to early accounts, his first reaction was doubt, awe, even fear. Yet this experience became the bedrock of his belief. Hazleton calls for a new appreciation of doubt and questioning as the foundation of faith - and an end to fundamentalism of all kinds. Sally Wilcox will lead us in discussion after this Ted Talk. A small donation of $5 is requested to cover the cost of lunch prepared by Linda Chapman. All are welcome!

Two Ash Wednesday Services Scheduled

Ash Wednesday is Wednesday, February 18, marking the beginning of the Lenten season. Imposition of ashes will be offered at noon and at 7:30 p.m. in an effort to accommodate varying schedules.

All Saints Parish School Celebrates 50 Years!

Our school began 50 years ago in February 1965 with 29 enrolled children, a pet rabbit, and two guinea pigs under the direction of Dr. Letty Lauffer (then, Mrs. Letty Failing). Oh my goodness...how we have grown! The school is planning a celebration this spring with a 1965 theme with food, music, and dancing! (date TBD - stay tuned for more details to come!)

We would like to invite past students! Please help us with contact information of past students by sending information to the school (click here). It should be a fun celebration with current and past students and parents!
With love, Padric.
