Ministry Spotlight: Wise Women

Linda Chapman, member of Wise Women at All Saints, shares her experience serving in this ministry.

How did Wise Women ministry start at All Saints? How long have you served this ministry? About 4 years ago, Judy Mack told me about a group at her previous parish that met monthly and comprised women over the age of 60. At these gatherings they discussed faith as it relates to families, adult children, grandchildren, financial concerns, end of life questions, books they had read, etc. Judy & I agreed there was a void of fellowship opportunities for diverse women in this age group. Together we invited some of women to gather to discuss possibly forming a group of wise women. Interest in gatherings was definitely there and the myriad of topics was exhaustive & exhausting! Thus Wise Women was born.

What drew you to serve in this ministry?

I was drawn to this ministry because I want to connect with other women in fellowship here at All Saints to share my faith, my thoughts, and my concerns.

What has this ministry meant to you?  I have been a member of ASBTS since 1970; I used to be in the "couples club" in the mid-70's (young married couples). Then suddenly, I was divorced, my children grew up, and I came to church alone. Dealing with being "alone" was challenging itself, but coming to church alone was really one of the hardest parts for me. I tried to push this thought out of my mind - but it did bug me! Wise Women has given me new friendships and deepened those long-time friendships. I no longer feel alone on Sunday mornings. It is my hope that no one, no matter age, female or male, ever feels alone here. All are welcome.

How can someone get involved in Outreach here at All Saints? Everyone is invited and encouraged to participate in this fellowship ministry. The Wise Women calendar is posted online, so find a topic that interests you and pop in! Judy and I are always happy to talk to anyone about becoming involved with Wise Women - just email us!

An Invitation to Serve

Each Sunday, after the 10:00 a.m. service, the altar flowers are repurposed into lovely bouquets for fellow parishioners who may be shut-in, recovering from illness, grieving, or celebrating a birthday or anniversary. These are the bouquets for which we recruit weekly volunteers to deliver. The behind-the-scenes ministry of Flower Power is responsible for making these meaningful gifts of recognition and support. The time commitment is little, but the impact is great. Everyone is invited to serve this ministry! No previous flower arrangement experience is required. If this ministry speaks to you, simply visit the flower room in the back of the church after the 10:00 a.m. service, or email Mary Rosenberger or Carolyn Henderson. Experience the power of the flower!
