New Blog: "Our Episcopal Witness: Confirmation"

As a child growing up in the Episcopal Church, I couldn't wait to be confirmed.  In those days Confirmation signaled not only strength received from the Holy Spirit by the laying on of hands by the Bishop, but also first communion.  My Sunday School friends and I thought we were making a grand entrance into the adult life of the church. Ministry Spotlight: Outreach Committee

Susan Evans, chairperson and longtime member of the Outreach Committee at All Saints, shares her experience serving this ministry.

How long have you been a member of Outreach?

I've been a member of the Outreach Committee for five years. I'm beginning my third year as chair this year.

What drew you to serve this ministry? A former Associate at All Saints, Liz Hendricks, approached me years ago about exploring this ministry. Liz had a strong commitment that an outreach program is not a bank, and our hands much follow our money. I share in that passion to become personally involved in the projects and programs to which we grant funding - if it is geographically possible.

What has this ministry meant to you? Serving our community and world through the All Saints Outreach Committee, I've received the blessing of getting to know and developing relationships with people I would not have necessarily had the opportunity to know otherwise. I absolutely love seeing the faces of children who have experiences they would not have had without our support. I get to witness God's grace upon children who have learned to swim because we supported their swimming lessons, families who were able to move from deteriorating trailers into clean, safe apartments, and children who felt safe and loved in their after-school programs in Carpinteria.

How can someone get involved in Outreach here at All Saints? There are many ways to serve, especially in hands-on ministry including feeding ministries or at Cleveland school. There is truly something for every interest and schedule. I'd be happy to talk with anyone about getting involved and help connect them with any of the programs we support. Simply email me. The Outreach Committee meetings are open and are another great way for anyone to learn more.
