1 Thessalonians 1:1-10
Matthew 22:15-22
October 17, 2014
Greetings!

Every year, with Christians all over the world, we at All Saints celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of our Lord, on Christmas Eve.  Once again, this year, we'll raise our voices in singing O Come All Ye Faithful, and a host of our most cherished Christmas Carols from the great tradition of the worshiping Church.

This year, I'd like to make Christmas Eve at All Saints a real HOME FOR CHRISTMAS celebration, by inviting anyone from the congregation to join us in an All Saints' Community Choir.  Our anthem will be a lovely and simple setting of one of the Christmas Carols, accompanied by the string ensemble, and rehearsals will be minimal and easily accessible the week or two prior on Sunday mornings.  You may sing at whichever service you plan to attend (or both if you are inspired), and you'll have the opportunity to help lead the family of All Saints in one of its most important worship celebrations of the entire year. Click here for more details.

Will you join us?  I hope so. If you'd like more information, catch either Don Ziehl or me on the patio after church some Sunday soon, or give me a call at the Church Office. I can't wait to make music with you!

God's Peace,

Steve O'Connor

Help Give Families a Home for Thanksgiving!

Just a little paint is all that's needed to complete the Habitat Houses at 822 E. Canon Perdido St. that All Saints and the other M-4 churches helped build in March. Help get them ready for families to move into in time for Thanksgiving. Click here to find out how to help.

Consecration Sunday Just Two Weeks Away
Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops. Proverbs 3:9
Heart-felt giving awakens us. It quickens our vision to perceive how everything is connected to everything else, and all of it to God.

This Sunday Cherry Post shares her stewardship witness. Next week, October 26, we will hear from Stephen Schaible.

Before you leave church on Sunday, please sign up to attend a Consecration brunch at the Information Table.

We will fill out our giving cards and present them to God as a community on November 2. We hope you can be here with us on that Sunday.

Your Stewardship Committee,

Ladeen Miller, Chip Nichols, Rev. Vicki Mouradian, Sally Messerlian, Denny Bacon, Karen Telleen-Lawton, Pat McClure, and Kathleen Winters
Thanks for a Wonderful Ministry Fair!
More than 30 ministries and programs were represented at our Fall Ministry Fair. It was a great success! Thanks to all our ministry leaders for making such beautiful booths and to all All Saints parishioners for stopping by to learn more about all the exciting things happening at All Saints! Check out the photos from the fair on our Facebook page!

God calls each of us to share our gifts and talents and everyone has something to offer. If you weren't able to make the Ministry Fair,  there is always an opportunity to get involved. Over the next weeks and months, we will highlight a different ministry and include information about how you can get involved.

Ministry Spotlight: Pew Guild

Anne Hopkinson talks about the Pew Guild and what it's like to serve this ministry.

What is the Pew Guild? Anne: Pew Guild is responsible for keeping the pews neat and replenished. Joining the Pew Guild is a wonderful way to serve your All Saints community without a large time commitment because it only requires about an hour a month.

What might one get out of serving this ministry? Anne: The Pew Guild offers people time for quiet reflection in the church while you work.

What types of people might enjoy serving on the Pew Guild? Anne: Someone who enjoys organization or someone who likes to work quietly and independently.

Who should I contact if I'm interested in joining the Pew Guild ministry? Anne: To join the Pew Guild or to get more information, people should call the Church Office at (805) 969-4771 or email me

Fundraising notice, Rev. Moore, January 28, 1900

"Let me read to you the following notice: -

May I ask you who have received requests for subscriptions to the Building Fund to kindly give the matter as prompt attention as you may be able to give?

I will not be able to take the next step in my plan until I have received from the members of the Mission their subscriptions.

And with reference to this matter, let me say that I feel very hopeful of the ultimate and even speedy success of our task. I am thus hopeful because I am sure that we are undertaking it in the right way and by the right methods. For I am sure that if we do our own part right and well, if we give generously and truly according to our ability - and if we give that way we will be giving generously whatever our ability may be; - If we thus do our part by simply giving to the Lord's work, I am sure He will bless us with success, and more speedy success than otherwise.

And will you let me frankly say that I am hopeful that our church will be built, and will stand as a monument of the free gifts of ourselves and those who may help us, given for God's use - a real offering?

I mean by this to say, that I hope we may not have to resort to entertainments for the purpose of raising money for building the church; at least not until we have done our own best, and not until we have failed in securing the help we hope for.

Such methods, I believe, while not wrong in themselves when rightly conducted, should not be employed, for many reasons, except - as a last resort, and under a pressing and desperate necessity. It is only then, I believe, that we may expediently use them, and be justified in their use. I am hoping that we may not be forced to such an extremity, but that in the old way, and beyond any question and doubt, according to God's direction and plan of finance, we may erect our church by money given, freely and willingly, to God and His work."
