Greetings!

Almighty God, you have so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but for the common good...through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Our campus cleanup day is this Saturday from 9 a.m. to Noon, and we hope to see you there. While we've got a lot of painting to do, there are projects for every age and ability, so bring the whole family! Supplies and refreshments will be provided, however, if you have additional supplies or refreshments you would like to bring, feel free to do so. Let's give our lovely campus a little TLC.

If you haven't already, please contact Nathan Sigler

All Saints' Parishioner and super volunteer, Carolyn Henderson, sorts through old photographs and documents as she works to create an All Saints Archive. Carolyn took on this archive project several months ago, and has been giving her Fridays to our church for this special and important work.

Be sure to check out the new "From the All Saints Archives" (below) to see what exciting things Carolyn is uncovering.

Have You Signed Up for the Sept. 6

M-4 Half Day of Service?

Cleveland Elementary is our outreach focus project - help us have a great turnout at the M-4 Half Day of Service on September 6! We'll meet at 8:30 a.m. in the Cleveland Elementary cafeteria for a light breakfast and choose our work groups. There's lots of work to be accomplished in just three short hours, but with your help we can do it. While the majority of the work needed is in the garden and on the grounds, the administration needs help setting up computers, and teachers need help with decorations and bulletin boards in the classrooms. There's a task for all ages and abilities.

If you aren't able to join us, you can still help! We need materials and tools for use during the day especially wheelbarrows, shovels, and other gardening tools. The M-4 churches will also be purchasing tools and paint to be donated to Cleveland School; financial donations to aid in the purchase of these materials are needed.

To volunteer, donate or loan supplies, or to make a financial contribution, please contact Susan Evans.

September 14: A Very Special All Saints Homecoming Picnic Honoring Father Bob

Homecoming Sunday will be September 14 this year. Please plan on joining us for this very special day, as it will also be Father Bob's last Sunday at All Saints. Sunday School teachers will be commissioned during the 10 a.m. service. Immediately following the
8 a.m. and 10 a.m. services, our Homecoming celebration on the patio will kick off our new year. Join us in rejoicing in the bountiful gifts God has bestowed upon All Saints, including a special sendoff for our beloved Father Bob. Enjoy a delicious brunch, fellowship and fun as we look back on Father Bob's leadership at All Saints, bid him a farewell as he starts his new journey, and look ahead to the exciting new chapter we're beginning at All Saints. This will truly be one of the most memorable Homecomings yet - we look forward to seeing you there! If you have any questions, or would like to help in any way, please contact the Church Office 805/969-4771.
Kathleen Winters To Be Commissioned
Sunday, August 31
As a way to officially welcome Kathleen Winters into her role as All Saints' Director of Administration, she will be commissioned by Father Bob at both the 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. services on August 31. Join us for a celebration on the patio following both services to meet Kathleen and to help give her a warm welcome to our All Saints family.
Join the All Saints Hearts Team!
Hearts Therapeutic Equestrian Center
Hearts Therapeutic Equestrian Center, a recipient of an All Saints Outreach grant, has invited us to build an All Saints volunteer team to assist with lessons one day a week. Volunteers change lives, making lifelong friends and joining a larger community of fun-loving, energetic individuals intent on making a difference! Some of the things you'll do as volunteers include: assisting riders during their weekly lessons, learning to groom and tack horses, helping to maintain the facility, or assisting with administrative tasks. Therapeutic riding is life changing, and so is volunteering at this organization. Contact Heather Childress if you'd like to join the All Saints Hearts Team.

From the All Saints Archives

All Saints' history is rich and fascinating. Few truly know just how fascinating it is more than parishioner Carolyn Henderson. Carolyn has been working away each week to carefully sort through all of our historical documents and photographs to create an organized All Saints' Archive. The stuff Carolyn's unearthing is just too interesting to keep boxed up, so each week we'll showcase one of Carolyn's finds.

A BIG thank you to Carolyn for her service to All Saints in this important ministry.

We begin this week with a handwritten Prayer for Peace penned by Vicar Melvin M. Moore. May it inspire our own prayers for the peace that is so desperately needed in our world today.

For Russia and Japan

A Prayer for Peace

O Almighty God, who alone canst order the unruly wills and affections of sinful men, mercifully grant unto the authorities of the two Nations now at war, that they may love the thing which Thou commandest, and desire that which Thou dost promise: so that a just peace may now be consummated, and that the Nations of the world may know that Thou art the Lord and Judge of all the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

New Blog: Reflection on the Ordination of Women
The Episcopal Church in the United States recently celebrated the fortieth anniversary of the ordination of women to the priesthood.  My, how times have changed in forty years!  The church went from a time of turmoil and indecision over this issue in the sixties and seventies to a time of general acceptance by the twenty-first century.  The times of argument and angst faded into the background as the church moved forward to address other issues of intolerance, peace and social justice, environmental stewardship, and more. All Saints Book Club

"What's So Amazing About Grace?"

"What is grace? If grace is God's love for the undeserving, then what does it look like in action?" These are just two questions the All Saints Book Club will be exploring as we discuss Philip Yancey's novel, What's So Amazing About Grace? on Monday, September 8. Join us in the Parish House at 6 p.m. for a potluck dinner and lively discussion of Yancey's personal and provocative book on a most poignant topic. Email Rev. Vicki with questions. Friends & family are welcome!
Cleveland Elementary School is a year-round school and home to approximately 380 students, grades K-6, of which 95 percent are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. Homework tutors are needed in a variety of subjects. Prior tutoring or teaching experience is desirable, but not required.  If tutoring is an area of interest, Outreach Committee and Cleveland Elementary families need you. Contact Susan Evans, other Outreach Committee members, or David Boyd. Tutoring is only one way to be involved in this important project. Learn more.

As we continue the last few weeks of our Summer Arts in Liturgy program, featuring the Music of the World-Wide Anglican communion, we'll venture deep into our American roots with the sounds of Southern Gospel and Mountain music. These musical sounds are indigenous to Frontier Americans and are still a large part of the American worshiping landscape today, especially in the regions of Appalachia and the South.

To help us, we welcome back our Eventide Band to lead our music with authentic Bluegrass instruments, rhythms and singing. You (y'all) won't want to miss it!

Thanks to all who joined us for our trip to the Hollywood Bowl for the Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Fireworks this past weekend. We enjoyed a delicious picnic dinner catered by Connie Lindberg followed by a magical performance by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and guests.
