Greetings!

Thank you for your very warm welcome the past couple of weeks. Everyone has been so helpful and patient with me while I continue to get my feet wet as your new Director of Administration. Many of you may not know that the reason I have not been to All Saints on a Sunday yet, is because until August 24th I am the still the Music Director at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Costa Mesa. I am pleased to announce that on Sunday, August 31st, I will be at both services where I will be commissioned by Fr. Bob.  I am really looking forward to being a part of the service and meeting everyone!

September 14: A Very Special All Saints Homecoming Picnic Honoring Father Bob

Homecoming Sunday will be September 14 this year. Please plan on joining us for this very special day, as it will also be Father Bob's last Sunday at All Saints. Sunday School teachers will be
commissioned during the 10 a.m. service. Immediately following the
8 a.m. and 10 a.m. services, our Homecoming celebration on the patio will kick off. Join us to rejoice in the bountiful gifts God has bestowed upon All Saints, including a special sendoff for our beloved Father Bob. Enjoy delicious brunch, fellowship and fun as we look back on Father Bob's leadership at All Saints, bid him a farewell as he starts his new journey, and look ahead to the exciting new chapter we're beginning at All Saints. This will truly be one of the most memorable Homecomings yet - we look forward to seeing you there! If you have any questions, or would like to help in any way, please contact the Church Office 805/969-4771.

Join us!  The weather's nice and All Saints is having a picnic on the patio Wednesday, August 20 at 6:30 p.m.

While we'll gather after Eventide, all parishioners are encouraged to join us. If you'd like, plan to bring a favorite dish, side, or dessert to share with your fellow parishioners. Friends and family are invited!
All Saints Annual Campus Cleanup Day is just around the corner, and we need your help! Join us Saturday, August 23, from 9am-Noon, to spruce up our lovely campus. The work we accomplish in just a few hours is important in keeping our campus one of the most beautiful around. (And of course so everything is shiny and clean for a new Rector!)

We'll tackle a variety of other projects this year. Remember, many hands make light work. Please volunteer if you can. Sign up with Nathan Sigler.
New Blog: Reflection on the Ordination of Women
The Episcopal Church in the United States recently celebrated the fortieth anniversary of the ordination of women to the priesthood.  My, how times have changed in forty years!  The church went from a time of turmoil and indecision over this issue in the sixties and seventies to a time of general acceptance by the twenty-first century.  The times of argument and angst faded into the background as the church moved forward to address other issues of intolerance, peace and social justice, environmental stewardship, and more. Save the Date: M-4 Half  Day of Service

September 6

The M-4 churches are hosting a half Day of Service, September 6 from
8:30 a.m. until Noon at Cleveland Elementary School. A light breakfast, supplied by the PTA, will be served at 8:30 a.m., when you can choose a work group. The morning will be spent primarily sprucing up the garden for the new school year. As Cleveland Elementary is All Saints' focus project, it's important that we have a good showing of parishioners. Friends and family are welcome.

There are also some materials and tools that are needed for use this day including wheel barrels, shovels, and other gardening tools.
M-4 churches will also be purchasing tools and paint to be donated to Cleveland School; financial donations to aid in the purchase of these materials are needed. Please contact Susan Evans.

All Saints Book Club

"What's So Amazing About Grace?"

"What is grace? If grace is God's love for the undeserving, then what does it look like in action?" These are just two questions the All Saints Book Club will be exploring as we discuss Philip Yancey's novel, What's So Amazing About Grace? on Monday, September 8. Join us in the Parish House at 6 p.m. for a potluck dinner and lively discussion of Yancey's personal and provocative book on a most poignant topic. Email Rev. Vicki with questions. Friends & family are welcome!
Cleveland Elementary School is a year-round school and home to approximately 380 students, grades K-6, of which 95 percent are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. Most of these students live along the Salinas Street corridor on the lower east side of Santa Barbara, an area that lacks effective advocacy at City Hall to make the walk to and from school safe for the many children and parents who walk each day. Sidewalks need repairing, there are areas that lack any form of sidewalk at all, the speed limit needs enforcing, and more marked school crossings are needed.  If advocacy is an area of interest, Outreach Committee and Cleveland Elementary families need you. Contact Susan Evans, other Outreach Committee members, or David Boyd. Advocacy is only one way to be involved in this important project. Learn more.

Parish School Playground Goes Green

Workers are installing new "grass" at the Parish School this week. It looks like grass and feels like grass, but requires zero water to maintain. This new drought-friendly lawn not only looks gorgeous, it is designed to provide a lush surface that's durable and safe for children to run and play. Hats off to the All Saints Parish School - that's one smart playground!

As we begin the last few weeks of our Summer Arts in Liturgy program, featuring the Music of the World-Wide Anglican communion, we'll venture deep into our American roots with the sounds of  Southern Gospel and Mountain music.  These musical sounds are indigenous to Frontier Americans and are still a large part of the American worshiping landscape today, especially in the regions Appalachia and the South.

To help us, our Eventide Band will lead our music with authentic Bluegrass instruments, rhythms and singing. You (y'all) won't want to miss it!

Long-time parishioner Sally Fordyce's memorial is planned for 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, at All Saints-by-the-Sea.
