This Sunday's Readings:
Genesis 28:10-19a Psalm 86:11-17 Romans 8:12-25  Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43
July 17, 2014
Greetings!

The call to share Christ's love with those in need has taken All Saints' parishioners to communities near and far.  With the completion of St. Cyprien School, we now have the opportunity to serve a deserving community a little closer to home.

Our Outreach Committee's new Focus Project, The Lisa Chiles Cleveland Elementary School Focus Project shares the same goal as our international effort: to change lives through the hands-on ministry of our parishioners, as well as through donations of parish and individual funds. While it is a mere two miles from All Saints, the children and families of Cleveland elementary are in great need of financial support as well as a meaningful relationship with their neighbors. I invite you to transform your heart and life, while bettering the lives of the children at Cleveland Elementary School.  You can learn more about our Focus Project by clicking here.

The Rev. Dr. Bob Honeychurch

Dedication of St. Cyprien School

The All Saints-supported school at St. Cyprien was dedicated on July 12. It was a joyous celebration, with a ribbon cutting ceremony, a blessing of the building, and a grand spread of food. The construction of this new 10-room school was All Saints' first International Focus Project.  The devastation of the 2009 earthquake is still felt in much of Haiti, and the completion of the school is a meaningful step in helping the community of Labiche move forward.

In Memoriam

*Correction* Long-time parishioner and past Vestry member John Adams' memorial is planned for 3 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, July 18, at All Saints-by-the-Sea.

Farewell to Robbie Boyd This Sunday!

Join us this Sunday, July 20, to bid Robbie Boyd a warm farewell as his family moves to New Hampshire.  Robbie has been working at All Saints for over six years and we want to send him, his wife, Megan, and children, Daisy & Charlie, off in true All Saints' fashion. Join us after 8 a.m. or 10 a.m. service, for cake, strawberries, punch and champagne on the patio. See you there!

News from Fr. Tom Loh

Many of you will remember Fr. Tom Loh from his time at All Saints last year.  Fr. Tom is the son-in-law of Ladeen and Stephen Miller, and he was with us for several months, gaining exposure to the Episcopal Church.  Since his return to the UK, Fr. Tom and his wife, Claire, have been in discernment for their own parish in the Church of England, and they are delighted to share that Fr. Tom has accepted a call to be the new vicar of St. Michael and All Angels, Westcliff-on-Sea, in his Diocese of Chelmsford.

"It doesn't quite have the beaches of Santa Barbara, but the parish is on the coast and we're very happy to be moving there in the Autumn," writes Fr. Tom. Please join us in wishing Fr. Tom and Claire well on their new parish home.

Pageant of the Masters Trip - this Sunday!

A handful of tickets remain for our trip to the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach this Sunday, July 20. Join us for a light lunch following the 10 a.m. service, luxury coach to and from Laguna Beach, entrance and viewing of the festival art, dinner, live music, and the performance of the Pageant. The Pageant is known for its "living pictures" in which classical or contemporary works of art are recreated by real people who are made to look nearly identical to the originals.

Search Process Update

The Discernment Committee continues
their hard work this week as they whittle their list of six remaining candidates for rector down to three.  Late July will see a joint retreat with the Vestry to discuss the process to date in detail and the merits of each of the remaining individuals.  The Vestry will devote August to the task of choosing from among the three finalists.  Questions: ask Co-Chairs Andy Rosenberger or Denny Bacon.

Life in Christ with the Prayer
of St. Patrick

There are many versions of the Prayer of St. Patrick but perhaps the best known and most widely accepted section reads:
Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

A four week class regarding our personal interaction with the Prayer of St. Patrick will be offered after Eventide and soup supper on Wednesdays July 30, August 6, 13, and 20. We will meet in the Parish House at 7:15 p.m. to discover what this prayer might mean in your life! Family and friends are welcome.  For more information, please contact the Rev. Vicki Mouradian at the church 805/969-4771.

Save the Date! Campus Cleanup August 23book
All Saints' Annual Campus Cleanup Day will be Saturday, August 23 this year. The work we accomplish in just a few hours this day is important in keeping our campus one of the most beautiful around.

More details to come. In the meantime, contact Nathan Sigler with any questions.

"Education for Ministry" Offered

Education for Ministry (EfM) will be offered in Santa Barbara this year beginning in September. EfM welcomes all new and returning participants to this program of theological education at a distance.

Local groups meet weekly throughout the United States and overseas from September through the following June. Meetings are generally three hours and consist of worship, group study, and theological reflection -- which is the heart of the program. EfM's mission is to provide an educational foundation and support for all ministries through deepening of faith and understanding of the church and living theologically in the world.

Please contact EfM mentor Robert Brown at 805/895-3620 for more information.
