This Sunday's Readings:
Genesis 25:19-34 Psalm 119:105-112 Romans 8:1-11  Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23
July 10, 2014
Greetings!

In his quest for absolute power, Hitler defied all sense of human decency. In his determination to snuff out the spirit and identity of countries and peoples he felt beneath Aryan dignity, he systematically confiscated priceless art and artifacts from museums, residences, and national monuments. Hitler of course did not win this battle and there were countless allied men and women whose wartime effort was to recover and return the thousands of artifacts stolen.

Our All Saints Book Group is reading about such men and women in The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History by Robert M. Edsel and Bret Witter. Join us at 6:00 p.m. on Monday night, July 14, in the Parish House for potluck dinner and book discussion. All are welcome!

Sunday is All Saints' Night at Transition House

One one Sunday each month, 20 to 30 homeless families enjoy the All Saints dinner at Transition House emergency shelter.  Our next night to make and serve dinner is this Sunday, July 13. Servers should be at Transition House by 5 p.m.  Call the Church Office if you'd like to purchase food and/or help serve.

Search Process Update

The Discernment Committee continues hard at work as they whittle their six remaining candidates for rector down to three.  Late July will see a joint retreat with the Vestry to discuss in detail the process to date and the full details of each of the remaining individuals.  The Vestry will devote August to choosing from among the three finalists.  Questions: ask chairs Andy Rosenberger or Denny Bacon.

Life in Christ with the Prayer
of St. Patrick

There are many versions of the Prayer of St. Patrick but perhaps the best known and most widely accepted section reads:
Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

A four week class regarding our personal interaction with the Prayer of St. Patrick will be offered after Eventide and soup supper on Wednesdays July 30, August 6, 13, and 20. We will meet in the Parish House at 7:15 p.m. to discover what this prayer might mean in your life! Family and friends are welcome.  For more information, please contact the Rev. Vicki Mouradian at the church 805/969-4771.

Book Group to Meet July 14book

All Saints' Book Group will meet on Monday, July 14, to discuss The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History by Robert M. Edsel with Bret Witter.  Focusing on the eleven-month period between D-Day and V-E Day, this fascinating account follows six Monuments men (a special force of American and British museum directors, curators, and art historians) and their impossible mission to save the world's great art from the Nazis.  The movie adaptation of this book was the kick-off movie in this summer's film festival.

Join us for a wonderful evening of fellowship as we delve into this exciting and dynamic book.  We will meet at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish House for potluck and discussion.  Please bring a dish to share and a beverage of choice.  All are welcome.  If you have questions, please contact the Rev. Vicki Mouradian at church, 969-4771.

Farewell to Robbie Boyd!

Join us July 20, to bid Robbie Boyd a warm farewell as his family moves to New Hampshire.  Robbie has been working at All Saints for over six years and we want to send him, his wife, Megan, and children, Daisy & Charlie, off in true All Saints' fashion. Join us after 8 a.m. or 10 a.m. service, for cake, strawberries, punch and champagne on the patio. See you there!

Excitement Mounts for Pageant of the Masters

With just weeks to go, a handful of tickets remain for our trip to the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach on July 20. Join us for a light lunch following the 10 a.m. service, luxury coach to and from Laguna Beach, entrance and viewing of the festival art, dinner, live music, and the performance of the Pageant. The Pageant is known for its "living pictures" in which classical or contemporary works of art are recreated by real people who are made to look nearly identical to the originals.

"Education for Ministry" Offered

Education for Ministry (EfM) will be offered in Santa Barbara this year beginning in September. EfM welcomes all new and returning participants to this program of theological education at a distance.

Local groups meet weekly throughout the United States and overseas from September through the following June. Meetings are generally three hours and consist of worship, group study, and theological reflection -- which is the heart of the program. EfM's mission is to provide an educational foundation and support for all ministries through deepening of faith and understanding of the church and living theologically in the world.

Please contact EfM mentor Robert Brown at 805/895-3620 for more information.
