Spring is finally here and we've never been happier to work in such a blossoming industry.  I hope you were able to contribute to some of the outstanding volunteer opportunities March has brought us.

The WCISA Municipal & Student Committees have united to create an internship connection program. If your organization or company has tasks that could be performed by students, such as data entry, GIS, inventory, mapping, management plans, and other projects, please send details to Gordon Mann at Gordon@mannandtrees.com. If you or your students are interested in finding internships within our chapter region, contact mary@wcisa.net. We will do our best to match requests up by location and report back to the membership in future issues of Western Arborist.

This 3-2-1 tournament is scheduled for 10:00 to 4:00 pm on Tuesday, May 7 - tee times will be set after April 10.  The $150 entry fee will include 18 holes of golf, cart, raffle ticket (chance to win a new driver) and lunch on the course.  Learn more

The Britton Fund Ride

Indian Wells, CA

 

The Britton Fund will hold its annual Britton Fund Ride in support of tree research and education on May 7, 2013.  Kicking off at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells, a group of cyclists will ride a metric century (62 miles) throughout the Coachella Valley, planting trees at two elementary schools along the way.

Tree Climbing Championship, plus a Day of Safety

Day of Safety: June 14, 2013

TCC: June 15 & 16, 2013

Crystal Springs Picnic Area, Griffith Park, Los Angeles

 

The best tree climbers in the west (Arizona, California, Hawaii,
and Nevada) will gather June 15th for the Western
Chapter ISA Tree Climbing Championships. There will be exhibitors, food and activities to make a fun filled day.  The preliminary championship starts on Saturday,  where 30 contestants will compete in four timed events.  On Sunday there will be one final event, and then the top men's climbers will compete in the Master's Challenge.

"Chapter Champions" will earn the honor of representing
the chapter at the International Tree Climbing Championship
at the ISA annual conference this summer in Toronto.  

 

Volunteers are still needed for this fun event. Please email Bob Bennett or Rose Epperson to sign up.

The 7th Annual Wildland Fire Litigation Conference takes place this year in Monterey, CA at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa on April 19 - 21, 2013.

 

This year we have 6 hours of timber, orchards, ornamental and environmental tree valuations, 5 hours of wildland fire investigations, 5 hours of power line, welding, grinding, cutting and other industrial operations forensics, 3 hours of fire behavior and GIS sciences, 5 hours of legal issues and more.
