The year is flying by us. I've been spending most of my time at speaking engagements. We take our presentations very seriously, spending a lot of time on preparation to create a presentation focused on that particular audience. It allows me to share the numerous images I've gathered over the years of unique and significant automobiles and the stories of the people behind them. I've been very pleased with the responses we get from our work.
So far this year I've spoken in (in order of appearance): Phoenix, Willow Springs CA, Spring Mountain Raceway outside of Las Vegas, Amelia Island FL, Chicago, Newport Beach CA, the BlackHawk Museum in Northern CA and at Shelby's in Los Angeles. We've been a bit behind in posting our 2015 schedule but have rectified that on the Schedule section here on our website.
We also mention below specific upcoming events we think you might be interested in. There are a few new Daytona Coupe products coming out but because of issues with production we aren't going to mention anything about them until they're here. In the meantime, I decided to go through my closet(s!) and share some of the items I've been hoarding (I always say if you aren't a packrat you aren't a car guy). As you'll read below, in each case there are just a few items. We will do our best to monitor sales and mark them sold out when the last one is gone.
One highlight to mention (further detailed below) is I'll be the guest speaker at the Saratoga, NY Concours' in September. We seldom make it to the Northeast. If you're in that area we hope to see you then!
Have a good Summer,
Peter (& Gayle) Brock

Dallas Shelby Car Show
Our next event takes us to the heart of Texas Shelby Country
|
We're looking forward to meeting up with the Shelby Association of Texas in less than two weeks. The car show is on the 27th from 10am-2pm. Details on the car show can be found here. That evening at 6pm is an informal banquet where I'll be telling stories of those "good old days at Shelby American". Tickets are selling fast and last we heard there were less than 20 left. Go here if you'd like more info on the banquet.

Four Daytona Coupe Art Prints
The first of the items I'm letting go out of my collection |
In 2004 artist Michael Mate created this beautiful painting of the third Daytona Coupe built, CSX2300. Shown here racing in the Tour de France the car is being driven by Bob Bondurant (his co-driver/navigator was Jochen Neerpasch). 500 prints were made of this beautiful piece.
The four pieces I'm letting go are the only prints signed by Bondurant, the artist and myself. They are print numbers 200, 201, 202 and 203. Let's get them into some nice homes so they can be displayed as they rightfully should be. When they are gone from here they are gone!

Mustang the Marque in August
Monterey Motorsports Reunion Celebrates Mustang's 50th Year
|
It is hard to believe this event is less than two months away. Planning for this mega week of activities in Monterey every August seems like a last minute affair. This year is no different in that, as of yet, we have no details on activities, car corrals, etc.
We just know we'll be there, the 50th anniversary GT350 Mustangs the Original Venice Crew (OVC) built this last year will be there (along with the crew) and it'll be a great time. The official track schedule can be found here.

Shelby GT350 50th Anniversary Poster
The next item I've decided should go to some good homes
|
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Shelby GT350s, not only did some of the Original Venice Crew build those two great GT350s that were unveiled at Willow Springs in CA on the anniversary date, a poster was created for the event/anniversary.
I received a handful of posters showing the two newly built cars, the original blue prints of the independent rear suspension, the modifications that were made, dates and locations of the first race and the 50th anniversary gathering and the names and printed autographs of the crew (Peter Brock, Jim Marietta, Ted Sutton and Duane Carling). I've also live autographed these to the lower right of car 98i. If you'd like a piece of this history go here. |
SAAC-40 in the Beautiful Poconos
The Shelby American Automobile Club's 40th Convention
|
We encourage everyone (you don't have to be a SAAC member or own a Shelby Car) to attend at least one SAAC convention. This organization puts on a heck of a convention (track events, memorabilia sales, banquets, etc). The best part is you'll find all the experts on Shelby Automobiles here.
This year's event runs from August 20-22 in the beautiful resort area of the Poconos. A great track and a great location. Take a few days off and treat yourself. We can't resist ourselves. We'll be there and hope to see you too.
As a reminder, SAAC is the organization that has been tracking and keeping records on the Shelby cars since its inception in 1975. They are the primary reason the cars have risen in value, because a purchaser can trust they are getting the car someone professes it to be. Their painstaking work is documented in the SAAC Registries which contains all the details of the cars including full owner history. We not only reference the registries ourselves but we offer them to others. You can get yours here. |
The Goodwood Revival Mystery Event
The more we know, the more we don't know
|
First, let's start with what we know... the Goodwood Revival is a wonderful event (this year Sept 11-13). The crowds arrive in period dress (our all time favorite was the gentleman in commercial airline pilot attire with two beautiful stewardesses on each arm dressed in '50s powder blue stewardess uniforms. Gayle attended in a '60s psychedelic dress and hat which the parking lot driver asked if it had been her mother's. Now that's the way to compliment a woman!). On track vintage cars race without restraint while P51 Mustangs fly overhead. It's an event for all the senses. If you haven't ever been, you must find a way. Situated in the English Countryside at Lord March's estate it is bucolic.
We've been hearing rumor for quite a while that this year Goodwood would be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Daytona Cobra Coupe FIA World Championship. Supposedly all six Daytona Coupes would be there. That would be the first time this has ever occurred. However, in at least one case, when we asked a Coupe owner if his car was going he said he hadn't been contacted and knew nothing of the plans.
Goodwood has since then announced that all six Coupes will be at the Revival this year. The Coupe owner we mentioned has publicly stated on blogs that his car will not be there. So will there be 6, 5, 4, ?
And us? We haven't heard anything from Goodwood either. As stated earlier however, no matter what it's an event to experience. You can get details of the event here (which may or may not be factual!).

Hemmings Saratoga Concours'
September takes us to beautiful Saratoga Springs, NY
|
We're often asked if we ever get to the Northeast. The answer is "rarely". This however is our year to see you there. This event is a really wonderful weekend of activities.
Friday you can take a cruise on scenic Lake George. Saturday there's a different kind of cruise in that you can drive your car into the "Cruise-In Car Show". Saturday evening is dinner and my keynote presentation. Sunday is the impressive Saratoga Automobile Museum September 25th through 27th.
Event details can be found here (one of five honored marques will be the Ford Thunderbird). We hope to see you at some point during this fun weekend!

The Last Item Coming Out of My Closet (for now)
Original 1997 Monterey Historics' Poster
|
In 1997, Carroll Shelby was the honoree for the Monterey Historics. It was the first time the Cobras were honored at this event.
This is the original 1997 event poster (printed in '97 for the event) which featured artwork by his dear friend Bill Neale. It contains a wonderful portrait of Carroll and a wide array of the cars he was associated with throughout his long and illustrious automotive career. Did I see you at the event in 1997?
It's the third item listed here.

In Closing
Gayle and I want to congratulate our friends at Corvette Racing for their amazing class win at Le Mans this weekend. The traditionally two-car team started the race with only one car when the other car was crashed so badly during qualifying it couldn't be repaired in time for the race.
Surrounded by Astons, Ferraris and Porsches, America persevered and brought home the win. It kind of reminds me of 1965 (-:
We hope to see you somewhere soon!
