First, we must point out the significance of Newsletter # 46. We're often asked why the BRE Championship cars carried the # 46. Most driver's have a number they consider their own and they race under it as often as they can. Peter Brock's race number was 73 and you can see it on many of the cars he raced. John Morton's race number was 46. Brock put the number on the cars John raced as it was John's preferred number. Morton made it famous by winning all those championships!
Now onto the holidays!
How did it get to be December? We had a great year and share some of the highlights with you below. At the same time, the year isn't over and the biggest gift giving holiday of the season is a mere weeks away. The entire crew here did some brainstorming and we think we came up with some pretty good ideas. And if you order something with an autograph, never hesitate to ask for the item to be personalized. Just respond to your order receipt with how you'd like the signed item personalized. We also provide an exciting update below on the 1:18 scale 510 models. All the best to the greatest people around... Datsun fans!!!

Best Book of the Year
Peter Brock's idea of a Special is a 30% discount on his book!
|
We started the year with a very prestigious award. Peter Brock's book on his years at GM Styling, which includes his '57 sketch which became the Corvette Sting Ray, won the Motor Press Guild's Book of the Year award as well as their Dean Bachelor Award, which is the best piece across all categories such as film articles, photography, books, etc.
Brock's idea for a holiday special is to offer you a 30% discount on his book when purchasing other items on the BRE website. Buy any piece of apparel, art, poster or archive photograph and you get a $20 discount off the book. Just go to the website here and when purchasing any eligible product you'll see the option to purchase the book with the discount.
If you'd like to hear more about the book, you can see Jay Leno's interview with Brock here.

January and February
Nissan Showcased IDx Concept Cars at Peter Brock Day
| January and February was filled with travel this year, which included being reunited with those great Nissan IDx concept cars in January at the Detroit Auto Show and in February at the Peter Brock day at the Petersen Museum in L.A. The cars were certainly a highlight of the Peter Brock Day (thank you Nissan!) but best of all were all the great Datsuns you brought to the event. The rooftop deck and parking lot were full of these beauties!
Another highlight in February was AutoWeek's choice for Friday Film. We're often asked if there's any footage of the BRE Datsuns racing back in the day. For those of you that don't know, there was a short documentary (26 minutes) called Against All Odds on the BRE team at the end of the 1971 season (yes that infamous season battling the Alfas). Back in February of this year, AutoWeek chose it as their Film Friday feature. For those that have already seen the documentary, it's still worth going to the link to read AutoWeek Associate Editor Blake Rong's enthusiastic introduction to the piece here. |
April Took Us to...
The Solvang Roadster Show
|
We've been trying to make it to this show for years. With leaving our photojournalism duties behind, we were able to keep the weekend free in order to attend this year.
What a show! We knew it was great but it was fantastic. What a setting for more than one hundred Datsuns to be on display to an enthusiastic crowd. Being managed by the great organizer, Chris Breyer, you can already find the dates and registration information here for another great show next year, April 24-25, 2015.

Hino Still Draws Attention
Road & Track Featured the Marque in May
|
We continue to be surprised by how many interview requests we still receive regarding BRE's days of racing Hinos (BRE/Brock raced Hinos from '66-68) and BRE's Hino transporter which was used from BRE's Hino racing days through the '69 and '70 Datsun Roadster and 240Z race seasons.
Brock is very proud of the 1:43rd scale Ebbro models of the sensational Brock-designed BRE Hino Samurai which appeared at the 1967 Japanese Grand Prix with acting star Toshiro Mifune being BRE's honorary team manager (autographed model seen above).

Just in Time for ZCON 2014
You Voted in the New BRE Hat in August |
Our hat supplier discontinued our navy blue with red trim hats so when preparing for ZCON 2014 in August in San Diego, we had to come up with a new hat. We had four samples of different hats made up and we let you decide via voting on the bre.datsun facebook page which hat would be the new BRE Hat. You can order the winning, new black with red trim hat here (and ordering a hat makes you eligible to purchase Brock's Corvette Sting Ray book at a $20 discount. Just select that option when getting the hat).

A Different Monterey Experience
Not being at the track didn't deter us from seeing some cool Datsuns
|
Brock's presentations and panel appearance at the Monterey Automotive Film Festival was highlighted by Robert Johnson bringing his BRE Tribute #85 510 into town. The moment the organizers spotted the head turner they were waving Robert up to the entrance where they removed the parking cones and the car took center stage. And for good reason! It quickly drew a crowd, including Brock checking out the engine compartment with Robert and several photo takers.

Which Brings Us To...
Where are those 1:18 scale BRE 510 models?
|
We finally have some solid news to share. The 1:18 scale resin model of the BRE #46 510 will be the first BRE 510 model released. It is on its way to production with an estimated arrival date of sometime in January. Price will be $120. Bummer it won't be here for the end of December holidays. We shy away from taking pre-orders, especially when we have no box art to show you. We have however reviewed and approved every component of the models and have some good photos of the final pieces. And as other vendors will soon be taking pre-orders, we will too.
You can see a nice variety of images of the model here. We will also offer a special edition of the model, numbered (e.g. 01/46) and signed by John Morton and Peter Brock. Note: Special Editions will take a little longer to ship once they arrive as we have to obtain Brock and Morton's autographs. These will be offered at $199 and can be ordered here (select *Special Edition*), while they last.
Reminder... these will NOT arrive in time for the holidays. Soonest shipment date is sometime in January.

September was Big for BRE's 240Z
Restoration complete, BRE unveiled it's new Z at JCCS
|
The Japanese Car Classic in Long Beach was the perfect opportunity for us to unveil the newly restored '71 BRE 240Z. It was an amazing day meeting hundreds of great fans! Pictures of the full restoration were posted on a regular basis on the bre.datsun facebook page and can still be seen there.
BRE offered a new BRE 240Z Legends shirt here for the unveiling, a few of which are still available here. Below you'll see a holiday special to get Peter Brock's autograph on our discontinued shirts. We've extended that special to include the BRE 240Z Legends shirt so you can display it as well.

Discontinued Shirt Special
Another Team idea offers them autographed for display
| As we discontinue some t-shirts, a desired size can become unavailable. However, we're often approached by fans that want Brock to autograph a shirt for them which they plan to display, and not wear. Of course the size of a displayed shirt doesn't matter which led one of our team members to recommend we offer the light colored discontinued shirts with Brock's autograph at no charge.
For shirts we're discontinuing, we have the following left (just select the free autograph option when ordering):
BRE Roadster shirt

BRE Models are Hot!
What a crazy year as BRE models sell out in hours
|
First there was the HotWheels Redline model of the BRE Datsun 510 last December selling out in a few days. Then the Revell BRE Datsun 510 model kits arrived in June and they went quick. Latest was the HotWheels Redline model of the BRE Datsun 240Z which sold out in just a few hours (selling on ebay now for over $1000).
With any of our special edition, limited number models we ask that you order just one for yourself and at most a second one for a friend or relative. By the request of many of our followers, we will pull/cancel orders that look like they are for resale so everyone gets a fair chance to have one of these models for their personal collection. If you have any questions or want to let us know that your order is legit, always feel free to e-mail us here or call 702-558-3374.

Archive Photo Reprint Changes
We will be eliminating the photo mounting option
| We've been offering our archive photo reprints mounted on high quality and sturdy gatorboard. Mounted photos are a nice way to display photographs as you can place them anywhere and you eliminate the hassle and cost of trying to find frames that look good and fit them. However, gatorboard is very expensive (foamboard is much cheaper but doesn't hold up and warps easily) and the labor to mount photos on any type of board is extremely intensive. We've been offering photos mounted on gatorboard for less than our cost for quite a while now and frankly, not many people choose the option. We will continue to offer this mounting service (at our current less-than-cost prices) until our current supply of gatorboard is gone and then we will discontinue it.
So that's the Special... get your archive photos with mounting before the option is gone!

It's been another amazing year thanks to you. If there's any way we can help make your holidays extra special just let us know.
We hope to see you somewhere soon! Next up for us is the Arizona Concours' in Phoenix in January. Once we get through the holidays we'll be posting our 2015 schedule on our website.
The best to you and yours this holiday season,
