Greetings!
We hope you are having a wonderful summer. A main focus for us these warm summer months has been the restoration of our 240Z.
Details below include plans for its debut and several other places we will be in the coming months. We also give you an update on our remaining BRE inventory, including what numbers of special edition posters we have left.
And speaking of special editions, some very special BRE Datsun models are coming this year which we share details on below.
We also introduce you to the newest member of our team, David Strauss while another team member is getting her own section in our newsletters called Kit's Korner. We get so many requests for updates on BRE's mascot Kit, and she's such a hit at the events we take her to, we're taking your advice and giving her a section of her own.
Other news includes our new video series on Peter Brock. Check it all out below!

BRE 240Z Restoration
Let's start with some eye candy
|
You've seen the photos of all the parts that were taken off this original one-owner car and perfectly cleaned and restored. Last month the paint went on. Not wanting to give the impression this was one of BRE's original race cars and planning to drive it on the street vs. the track, we applied the BRE livery in an elegant white and silver color pallette. The white is the same as the original BRE team cars. The silver is Sebring Silver, the color that GM used on the '59 Stingray Racer and '63 production Sting Ray Corvettes which Peter helped design. We thought it a nice combination of two of Brock's prior worlds. Now the fun is really taking place as the car is reassembled. Major progress can be seen daily. It's a testament to how brilliantly these cars were designed and built. Nothing Jaguar-like about them!
So where can you see it? First, we've been updating our facebook album here with new photos quite frequently. Second, the car will debut, and you can see it in the flesh, at the JCCS (Japanese Car Classic) event Sept 27th at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. It'll even be in the event poster, which will be a must have at the event. Check out event details here. We hope to see you there! |
A Very Special Z Poster
Autographed by all '70 podium drivers and team managers
|
In the Z's first year, 1970, it swept the SCCA National Championships, 1st, 2nd and 3rd. An entire podium of Z winners!
This period poster celebrated this amazing achievement. Through quite some effort, to celebrate the Z's 40th anniversary we had 40 special edition posters made and signed by the three winning drivers, John Morton, Bob Sharp and John McComb and the two winning team owners/managers, Peter Brock and Bob Sharp. Four amazing autographs on this one poster. Out of the 40 numbered pieces we have 5 left. You can get this collector piece here while they last.

ZCON 2014
The next Datsun event coming up for us is a night at ZCON
| This annual Z Convention is several days long. Due to our commitments to finalize the prototype for our Aerovault MKII trailer for Monterey week (outlined below) we will focus our efforts at ZCON on one very special night, Thursday August 7th at the Mission Brewery in San Diego. Among others we can't wait to join John Knepp, John Morton, Frank Honsowetz, Casey Mollett, Don Devendoff and designers Yoshihiko Matsuo (240Z), Randy Rodriguez (370Z) and Toshio Yamashita (300ZX).
From this amazing group of people a panel session will be moderated by George Notaras of MotoMan fame with an amazing autograph session at the end. Cars in attendance will include the 1973 Z wide-body IMSA GTU Camel pace car and a Z432 from Japan.
BRE's mascot Kit will also be in attendance as proceeds from the event go to the Barking Lot of El Cajon CA; a dog rescue. In addition to Kit, the Barking Lot staff will be in attendance as party hosts and raffle salespeople. Can you imagine anything more fun... great people, great cars, great drinks and puppies! From 7pm-9:30pm, go here to buy your $25 ticket, which again, saves dogs through Barking Lot.
Note: If there is any BRE item you want to be sure you have so you can get all those autographs on it (in addition to posters and models we have a great selection of archive photograph reprints to select from), order it from us here now so you receive it by 8/7, or contact us and we can bring it with us for you to pick-up at the event. |
Special Edition 510 poster
You aren't left out if you're a BRE Datsun 510 fan
| It kind of seems like a Z month but we still have some of the special edition 510 Trans-Am posters which are numbered and autographed by Peter Brock and John Morton.
There were 46 made and of those we have the following numbers left: 23-25, 27, 28, 30-37 and 39-45. See an available number you want? Place your order here, be sure to select the Special Edition option, and then respond to the e-mail receipt you receive with your requested number. |
Monterey Reunion
Maserati is the marque but everyone can use a new Aerovault MKII!
|
Monterey at the Laguna Seca track August 15th - 17th we will be sharing the details of our new Aerovault MKII. Fully designed by Peter Brock (seen here checking out the Aerovault's new composite roof) this car trailer with its fully aerodynamic composite roof and slick side skirts is a head-turner. Be sure to stop by and give us your feedback.
Our booth will be in the same location as most years, at the south end of vendor row. You can get all event details here. |
Mattel Loves BRE Cars
New BRE 240Z HotWheels Redline model coming soon
|
We can now share the news that Mattel will soon be releasing a BRE 240Z in their beautiful collector Redline series. We say beautiful because the red on these cars is an eye-catching, unique iridescent red. You can only get this model direct from Mattel and only if you are a Redline club member, UNLESS you know us (-:
We will be offering less than 50 BRE-numbered (e.g. BRE 01/50) Redline BRE 240Z models signed by John Morton and Peter Brock. These special edition models won't be cheap but they appear to be a good investment as the BRE 510 HotWheels Redline models that were released earlier this year sold in hours and are now selling on the secondary market from $150 to $750.
No word on when these will arrive in the U.S. but we'll keep you posted. For anyone that's on facebook, be sure to "like" our bre.datsun page here so you receive the notifications we post when items like these become available.

BRE's Newest Team Member
Please welcome David Strauss
| David is the consummate car guy and people person. He comes to us most recently from Drake Automotive which specializes in aftermarket Mustang parts. David is seen here next to a BMW 2002... the car David learned to drive in years ago. Even though a huge Datsun fan, David was pleased to see this car was also in our stable of fun rides. It was Gayle's daily driver for about 15 years (prior to meeting Brock) and has earned its place as a member of the Brock family.
In addition to knowing a whole lot about Mustangs, David has been a follower of Peter Brock and BRE for as long as he can remember. You will no doubt soon meet David. He'll be with us at Monterey and will be taking calls and responding to your e-mails soon. David will also be working to increase our worldwide distributors. If you know any company you think should be selling BRE products, let David know here! |
Our Favorite George Bartell BRE 240Z Poster
Looks like we're back to talking about the BRE 240Z
|
This poster reeks of Bartell's artistic brilliance. His studio was in a hanger at Torrance airport and one day he just picked up a scrap piece of metal airplane skin, rivets and all and started to paint. This amazing art has portraits of both Brock and Morton (and you can see the rivets in the art). We made 46 special edition, numbered posters signed by both Morton and Brock. Remaining numbers are: 21, 22, 24-27, 37 and 39-40.
See an available number you want? Place your order here, be sure to select that you want the special edition and then respond to the e-mail receipt you receive with your requested number.

Brock to be Grand Marshal
September starts back in SoCal for the Corona del Mar Classic
|
September 7th, Peter Brock will be Grand Marshal at the Corona del Mar Classic car show. The focus won't be Datsuns but it's a beautiful show nonetheless (-:
We will have our Brock Daytona Coupe there and our Aerovault MKII. For event info go here. Tickets can be purchased here. As always, if you will be there and would like to order a product just order it here and we will ship it to you prior to the event or we can bring it to the event for pick-up. Just let us know here.

BRE 510 Model Update
1:43rds are sunsetting, 1:18s on the horizon
|
Those super looking 1:18 resin BRE Datsun 510 models should arrive sometime this Fall. Truescale's attention to detail is impressive. They are worth the wait.
In the meantime, we are at the bottom of the box of our 1:43rd scale BRE 510 die-cast models. We have only ONE #46 car left and nine #85 cars.
John Morton certainly immortalized the #46 cars but the #85 car is the unique BRE guest car that Bobby Allison drove and BRE painted in a special livery to include Bobby's sponsors. If you ever thought of getting one, do it here before they are gone!

Peter Brock Video Series
We can see the launch from here!
| The first sets of videos are being finalized now. Three categories will include:
1. Peter Brock's Book Series: Starting with Peter Brock's book "Origins of the Corvette Sting Ray" , Brock will share his personal stories of how he became a designer at GM Styling, how the first Corvette came to be, how his sketch was chosen as the direction of the '63 Corvette Sting Ray and much more.
2. Peter Brock's Speaking Series: In a fascinating set of videos Brock shares what he likes talking about most. From how the BRE team got involved with Datsuns and became the factory team to the history of automotive design, to Brock's own design history and much more.
3. Peter Brock's World: This series covers whatever is going on in Peter Brock's world. From the renovation of our '71 240Z, to Peter Brock talking about his Daytona Cobra Coupe and why it has the shape it does, to how he became a car guy, got into Art Center, to a beautiful retrospective he gives on George Bartell and his amazing automotive art and you guessed it, much more.
We will send out a news alert when the first videos start being posted, which will probably be in about two weeks. Stay tuned! |
BRE 240Z Die-Cast Model Update
Going, Going, Almost Gone!
| These 1:43rd scale models from Kyosho are pretty special. We actually have less of the #3 car left than the #46 so if you want the BRE Z two car team set, you'll want to grab them now.
In addition to being able to buy these individually here we also offer a nice set here which has both cars plus a BRE archive photo reprint, autographed by Peter Brock, showing both cars in the paddock at Phoenix Raceway in '71. |
Kit's Korner
BRE's mascot, Kitsune, loves visiting you
|
Kit has had a big couple of months, joining us at several events. Bloomington Gold in IL resulted in her taking her first flights. She fit under the seat perfectly and was so well behaved that even the passengers that sat next to her didn't realize she was there.
Logistically challenged with 6 pieces of luggage with books, Kit took it in stride and sat on top of one of the suitcases. At the event she sat on a table in our booth while event attendees petted her, took pictures with her, etc.
The sight attendees enjoyed most however was Kit and Brock making the rounds on their golf cart. Kit watched intently as Brock signed books and watching for traffic on the road. They were quite the sight!

In Closing
If you follow our posts on facebook you know our new BRE Stylus/Writing Pens have become quite popular. We include one with each order but due to the number of calls we've gotten from people asking how they can get more, we are now offering them in 3 and 5 packs here. Check them out!
Our schedule is always posted here. We hope to see you somewhere soon this summer!
