BRE Datsun Issue #043:

Events, Videos, and More Models

April 21, 2014

Was it just two months ago when we saw many of you at the Petersen Museum? Thank you for joining us and thanks again to Nissan for bringing out those great IDx concept cars for the event.

It's shaping up to be another great year of activities. Last month we enjoyed our annual sojourn to the Amelia Island Concours. No Datsuns there... yet! This weekend we head up to Solvang for the annual Solvang Roadster show. We've also added onto our calendar the Japanese Car Classic Show September 27th. Can you believe this will be the 10th year for this show?

On the model front, we're working on a couple of exciting projects. And did you see that BRE 510 Hot Wheels Redline model that sold on ebay for $760! More info below which includes an update on some products we're discontinuing as we enter crunch time on our new trailer manufacturing and an update on the restoration of our '71 240z. It's going to be a stunner.

Enjoy the read!

Solvang On Our Minds
Over 100 Datsun Roadsters...and pizza!
We have wanted to participate in this show for several years. Chris Breyer, the President of the SoCal Roadster Club has helped make it happen for this weekend. Thank you Chris! We'll start the show with a meet and greet event Friday evening from 6-9pm, in addition to great cars and people, rumor has it there will be some really good pizza. We're ready! Show day is 9am-3pm Saturday. We will have all of our Datsun Roadster offerings there. We are however very low on shirts (seen below). If you want a roadster shirt we recommend you order it now to make it yours and we'll have it there with your name on it.

Gayle says she's not handling $1 bills at the show so we've reduced our shirt prices for the show to be an even $20, $25, etc. It only seems fair that we offer these same prices to everyone so from now through show weekend, these are the prices on our apparel webpage hereIt's basically a 15% discount.

And if you want any non-Roadster BRE items (which we won't be bringing unless you order them in advance) you can order those too and we'll bring it just for you. Prior to Wed morning e-mail or call your order into 702-558-3374 and avoid any shipping fees the website would calculate. You can get all the details of the Solvang show here.
1:18 Scale BRE 510 Models!
You, and we, have asked for them for YEARS
If you're a fan of our facebook page you no doubt saw this teaser photo a couple of months ago. Yes, that's right. Finally, BRE Datsun 510 1:18 scale models are coming! And yes, we did say models, with an "s". Both John Morton's BRE 510 #46 and Bobby Allison's BRE #85.

Costs continue to rise and to keep the cost in the range we think you're willing to pay, the models will be resin. We're impressed with the quality of the prototypes we've seen and as usual, we have gone to GREAT pains to ensure the bodies and graphics are correct. We don't know the pricing yet and there's no specific production date yet but they're coming this year. Stay tuned!
The Sell-Off Continues
History Revisted Will Soon Become History Again
Due to our recent success in having Brock share some of his history and experiences in his recent Corvette book and an upcoming book on the Daytona Cobra Coupe, PLUS setting up the manufacturing of our Aerovault trailers, we're reducing our inventories and when current stock of some of our shirts runs out, they'll once again become history!

For shirts we're discontinuing, we have the following left:

Speaking of the Trailers
It's getting pretty serious around here

If you follow Peter Brock Designs on Facebook here you saw the arrival of our 28,000 pound press brake (seen here). The brake is what bends the aluminum sides of our new Aerovault MKII trailer. That indentation gives the aluminum enough strength that framing members are not needed, which decreases weight, increases durability, increases interior room and you never bump your elbow or head on a piece of frame. The last piece of equipment needed to start building the trailers has just been completed.  It's a vertical three bar roller  that will bend sheets of aluminum into that perfect and beautiful curve at the front of the Aerovault trailers. Our skeleton trailer has been completed and taken to the composite shop where the new composite roof will be made.  Once that is done production will begin in earnest!  We currently have a waiting list for the new MKIIs.  If you're interested, call us at (702) 843-5320 to get more info or talk about getting on the list to hold your position.  Deposits will be taken when we have pricing finalized.

Oh, and before we forget... on the Peter Brock Designs facebook page we had asked for your suggested names for that awesome press brake.  We received so many great names it was a really tough choice until... Garry Bopp, owner of a beautiful Factory Five Coupe, submitted "Thumper".  Game over... Thumper it is!
BRE's 240Z Restoration
You just can't believe the condition this car will be in

As our foreman Jerry and crew setup trailer production, Brian leads our 240Z restoration.  We don't want to give away any secrets but it appears Brian has setup his own electroplating lab in the shop.  Whether it's being done in-house or out, every single part will be perfect, often better than new, as it goes back into the car.  Painting will occur the moment we get back from the Solvang Roadster Classic.  It can't happen without Brock there to layout those stripes!

Check out our 240Z Restoration Project album on Facebook here.

Non-Datsun Highlights
Just in case you're interested :-)

As the Solvang show comes to a close on Saturday we'll be packing up the truck (with Mascot Kit) and heading to the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, CA.  It's the Norcal Corvette Association's big event and Brock will speak on the origins of the '63 Sting Ray. Speaking of which, as we'll be taking Brock's book to that event, we'll also have them with us at Solvang.  It's a good opportunity to get a book personalized to you, or a friend, from Brock... even if it is about a Corvette!

A note on the Cobra front, we have our Superformance SPC036 Daytona Cobra Coupe up for sale.  The car has been all sorted out, as we know how to do.  It is the best Coupe we've ever had.  We hate to get rid of it, and at a really good price, but the trailer business is calling for more funds.  There are currently three Superformance Coupes on the market. Ours is priced at $128k. A second Coupe is priced at $160k.  The third Coupe we're familiar with is priced at $175k and it does not have the BRE upgrades as our car does.  If you know someone who's interested, send them our way here.
Japanese Car Classic Show (JCCS)

America's first large Japanese classics show reaches 10th year

This great show returns to the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA September 27th.  And we'll be there!  Can you guess what we might bring?  Well you know how car restorations go so no promises but the BRE 240Z being completed is our goal.

You can find all the details about the show here and if you want one of our BRE shirts to wear there, go here now before the one you want is gone.

Speaking of Models
Less than 15 each remain of our 1:43rd scale models
All the 1:43rd Truescale Signature models are now sold out.  A quick inventory of our remaining 1:43rd scale models show they'll be gone soon as well.  Get yours now before it's too late.  We know of no plans by anyone to come out with future 1:43rd scale BRE models.

Hot Wheels

Redline models are hot, hot hot!

Did you see that BRE 510 HotWheels Redline model sell for $760 on eBay?  Yowza!  We must admit we weren't really familiar with all the HotWheels lines when Mattel approached us about doing a Redlines BRE 510.  It's fair to say that anyone who got the few we made available with both John Morton and Peter Brock's signature, scored.

Now we aren't going to pre-announce anything but we do want to share that we got a great tour at the HotWheels design center two weeks ago. They are great people to work with.  It probably doesn't hurt that they're big Datsun fans themselves.  Seen here are just two of the many Datsuns owned by the folks at Mattel.

You want to make sure that you get notified when we post updates to our Facebook page here.  You never know what might be coming (-:
"Online" Update
Good progress being made on website and video projects

First, let's cover the frustrating issues we've had with the website that Shelly (seen to the right with a BRE 240Z poster of her choosing on her office wall) has fixed.  1) You can now choose FedEx shipping again!  It's been a long time since the provider of the FedEx module on our website made a change that broke it on our site.  Shelly dug in and got it working again.  2) Next was that annoying space that was appearing at the top of the BRE homepage, and in some cases was saying link not found.  Shelly found it was some kind of google ad link that we don't use but was throwing-up in the background of the website.

Beyond "fixes", Shelly's primary goal is to create a series of videos under the heading of "Peter Brock's World".  She's making great progress and soon to be released will be an "intro" video of sorts on Peter Brock's experiences.  Following that will be detailed video segments where Brock goes into depth on a particular topic, like how he got interested in cars, how he got into Art Center, GM Styling, Shelby American and how he became the West coast factory team for Datsun.

We're looking forward to sharing more Peter Brock with you!

In Closing

It's been a pleasure to be able to attend more events now that we've stopped covering motor racing last year.  We always enjoy the stories you share with us on how you became a "car guy" (that refers to the ladies too) and what car experiences you've had.

You can always check our event schedule here. We hope to see you somewhere soon!
