BRE's New Japanese Mascot

November 19, 2012
Kit Main

Greetings!

Lots of changes these days!   First, we've made the often-discussed decision not to cover the ALMS series going forward (more details below) and spend more of our time in NV.  As a result, we've finally fulfilled our goal of once again having a dog.  BRE's new mascot is Kit which is short for Kitsune (kit-sue-nay) which means Fox in Japanese (more details below).  Next, as we discontinue some of our Datsun shirts, we add another fun one.

On the expansion front, in addition to easy ordering from our website we've now put our BRE store on eBay here, and we've come across two revolutionary products which we think are real breakthroughs for us automotive enthusiasts.  One is a lightweight battery which is the easiest way we've ever found to shed 30 pounds from a track car and the other is an entirely environmentally safe heavy-duty cleaner for your car, your car parts and about anything else you can think of (more details below).

And what fun to see the number of bre.datsun facebook fans exceed 5100!  Keep sharing the word.  We'll always share quality info and details via our newsletters but our facebook page allows us to share info instantaneously, such as Brian Zetting's Tribute BRE 240Z winning the "Bosch Ride of the Week" Award here.

Enjoy the read,

Gayle and Peter Brock

First, the dog!

Kit proved she loves cars after 48 hours on the road in 4 days

Kit 2012-11 We hoped the day would come when we could have a dog again and while waiting, we decided on a Shiba Inu.  They are a reasonably sized small/medium dog that has a big dog attitude (in a good way, not a delusional way).  They originated in Japan, which continues the connection to our Japanese friends and business associates as our Koi did in Seattle. They are thinkers and rather quiet and seldom bark.  They look like a small fox which is where ours got her Japanese name Kitsune.  We all call her Kit (which can also stand for Kit Fox, kit car or Brian's favorite car Kitt from the tv series Night Rider).

She demonstrated early on she enjoys car travel when we took her on a 4 day road trip to Seattle with truck and trailer to get the last of our items out of our house in WA (the sale closed two weeks ago).  When not riding shotgun, she's at the shop with us every day.  She has met more than 100 people in the short 2 ½ weeks we've had her and she loves them all and it seems like she's been photographed more times than we have!  She is 12 weeks old today and approximately 7 pounds.  At maturity she will be 13"-15" tall and 15-20 pounds.  She hopes to meet you somewhere soon!

New Shirts Highlight BRE's Datsun History

Find your favorite track, driver, team member, car in this new shirt

There's so much to BRE's history with the Datsuns we thought it would be fun to create a shirt that highlighted, well... the highlights.  On this shirt you'll find the tracks where we raced, the drivers (team and guest drivers), the cars, the championships, the book... and Mr. K of course.

These shirts are made with a special "discharge" process where the color of the shirt is removed and the shirt's original/natural cotton ecru color is exposed.  There is no ink used so there is no difference in feel from the shirt and where the artwork is. Very nice.  A great present for someone, or for yourself!!

So where's the photo and link to these new shirts?  Well.... the samples we were to receive last week so we could confirm colors, didn't arrive.  They are now scheduled to be here Tue a.m. at which time we will confirm our order and you'll receive a quick update, with pictures!!

A BRE Birthday

Who needs Billy Idol?

Kosic_BREPartyYou may have read/heard that a man in Seattle convinced Billy Idol to play at his birthday party.  Well, Joel Kosic in the Seattle area has that guy beat.  He had a BRE Birthday party!  Joel (seen here with his wife Jillian), a Datsun 510 enthusiast (that's an understatement of course) and his friends dressed to party in their BRE team shirts, hats and pins.  From the field of the annual Art Center Car Classic, Brock joined in the fun with a surprise call to Joel, who was a bit speechless to start but soon recovered enough to post the event on his facebook page (-:

Another Great Art Center "Car Classic"

This year's annual event was motivated by "Inspiration"

burness brock at art center 2012 Cars were chosen for this year's Art Center show (the design school Brock attended in '55-'56 and later taught at) by what cars inspired great designers.  It was the most eclectic and interesting group of cars we've seen in a while, which included ex-BRE Team member, Bruce Burness (seen here with Brock), bringing George Follmer's Lola T-70 which Bruce is currently restoring (more info and pics on our facebook page here).

This year the school, located in Pasadena, CA, experimented with holding seminars on Saturday.  Brock was on the Technology Innovation panel along with Stewart Reed, head of the transportation department at the school, Ed Justice of the Justice Brothers, ex-BRE Team member Trevor Harris, one of the best chassis designers Brock's ever known and worked with, and Brock himself. The event is wonderfully casual, accessible, open to the public and the school is open for you to walk through and see the students' work (this is probably the biggest treat of all for us). We highly recommend you make it out next year.  You can view this year's cars, award winners and special guests here.

New Eco-friendly Cleaner has Brock Sold

This product has transformed our shop work and our thinking

Green1 for newsletter In setting up the shop Brock started looking for a parts washer and cleaner.  He was intrigued with the new environmentally safe products but as he did more research he found that many were still very toxic, ripped up our hands and they didn't do a great job of cleaning filthy parts.  Then we came across Green1.  It's MSDS rating is a perfect 0 (Simple Green's is 1 (mild hazard) in Health, Brakleen non-chlorinated has 2 in Health and 3 in Flammable). We've been using Green1 on just about everything.  We started with the obvious dirty, greasy engines, parts.

It was so impressive and yet mild on our hands (and didn't stink) that we started to try it on other things, like a used car (that had belonged to a smoker) to clean the steering wheel and other areas where other products had been tried without success.  It's safe on exterior painted surfaces and the full interior and can be used on a cloth to clean the finest leather seats, dash or wood paneling, or sprayed directly on carpet stains and sticky messes left in the cup holder.  Got about 20 different cleaning products for your car?  With Green1 things are getting a lot less complicated around here!

It's safe on all electrical components, modulators, rubber, casings & other critical advanced technological components and can also be used to free wheels from brake dust and other elements. It's 100% safe and effective on expensive wheels and other aftermarket parts whether chrome, PVD, brushed aluminum or powder coated.  It's also being used in the food industry so we're safely using it on our kitchen counter, refrigerator, microwave, sink and bbq grill.

We're currently offering great looking 16.9 oz aluminum spray bottles which are perfect for personal use or for testing in commercial applications.  For commercial applications, we also offer the product in gallons and barrels. You can find more info and order it here or if you're a business and would like to talk to us further please contact us here.  We're a bit slim on inventory right now so don't wait, or please be patient if your order has to wait to be filled.
Road & Track Takes BRE #46 510 for a Ride
Quality video pays respects to BRE team and the #46
As posted last month on our
facebook page, in September we got a call from Nissan ordering a new BRE spook® (front spoiler) for the #46 BRE Datsun 510.  They shared that the car had been on track for an upcoming R&T article.  A few weeks later Road & Track posted this very nice video.  Enjoy!!
Discontinued Pedals
They were great while they lasted
bre 510 pedals You know how it goes. You find someone doing something great and want them to do it for you but somehow they can't ever seem to get around to it.  So we're giving up on the very talented supplier of our BRE pedals, not that we had a choice (-:  We have two 510 3-pedal sets left and one 240Z 2-pedal set.
Datsun - Porsche Shootout
A great time in the sun at Las Vegas Speedway
Troy&Peter There's nothing better than spending the day with good friends and great cars in good weather.  Troy Ermish (seen here with Brock) won the season ending Datsun-Porsche shootout, coming from the back.

It's not really surprising as Troy preps some of the best 510 track cars we know.  Check out some of his work here .

The Answer to Brock's Battery Woes
Amazing technology that's a racer's best friend
BrailleBattery
Every good racer can tell you what $ amount it's worth to eliminate a pound of weight from his/her car. Depending on the level of racing this can range from $100s to millions of $s PER pound. For a fraction of that this battery will reduce the weight of your track/race vehicle by 10s of pounds.

In preparation of the SEMA industry show, Datzilla's traditional 41 pound battery was replaced with a lithium Braille Battery at 9.3 pounds!!  The advantages of the weight loss alone are impressive but there's more.  Because it's a solid lithium battery no chemical reaction will ever occur to cause the battery to sulfate and go bad.  And then there's the safety aspect as there's no acid to leak or spill if damaged.  Custom made in the US, these batteries provide reliability, safety, and the easiest and cheapest reduction in weight you'll ever find.

This is the best value, best innovation I've seen for track cars in years.  See more details here.

Datzilla at SEMA
Comments were heard far and wide as SEMA participants came across Brock's V-8 powered 510, Datzilla.  From blogs to top 10 lists, Datzilla was often mentioned as people's favorite car at the show.  You can read the ebay Motorsports blog article here.

JohnGayle1

We're pretty excited about all the changes around here.  Seems like every week there's something cool happening, including some great fun on Halloween when John Morton found he had some competition. Gayle, wearing a driver's suit, white helmet with the iconic "Morton" across it and best of all Morton's original 1970s Buddy Holly glasses (that Sylvia is a master packer!), greeted people with a "Hi I'm John Morton and I'm a Championship driver".  Morton joined in the fun, as seen in this photo.

Have a good holiday week!
