Milwaukee Bike Share:
Coming Summer 2013?
The St. Patrick's Day Parade isn't the only thing going green in Milwaukee. Midwest Bikeshare, Inc. is planning to bring a bike share system to Milwaukee as soon as summer, 2013.
Bike shares allow individuals to rent a bicycle for brief transportation needs, picking up and returning bikes to any rental kiosk throughout the city. With a membership, most trips under 30 minutes are free. Midwest Bikeshare, a non-profit organization, hopes to install 25 bike rental kiosks and some 250 bike share bikes throughout Milwaukee. This relatively new mode of transportation is affordable, clean and simple, and it has blossomed in popularity throughout the US and the world, including in Madison.
The Bike Share initiative has widespread support throughout the Milwaukee community with public leaders and citizens alike and could have a huge impact on Milwaukee sustainability and tourism. The organization currently has 1/3 of the funds it needs to initiate the BikeShare program and is looking for additional sources of funding. If you are interested in learning more about or contributing to the Milwaukee BikeShare program visit www.midwestbikeshare.org! |
