Energetic Juniors Newsletter
September 2015
Greetings!
Welcome back to all our EJ families and to those new clients who have already committed to coming on board!

In this newsletter, I would like to introduce a new friend to Energetic Juniors, a Child & Family Therapist, Michelle Paget!  Below is a wonderful segment she has written about helping your children work through anxiety.

If you haven't yet, make sure to sign your child up now for the fall!  Our trainers customize each and every session. The outcome is a program that is focused, engaging and fun, and most of all keeps your child/teen fit and healthy.  Check out the sign-up section below for more details.

Because of website technical difficulties, my current contact email address is [email protected].  My apologies to any who have not been able to get a hold of me through the Energetic Juniors email address. Feel free to call 212-879-1566, I still love hearing voices.

Best regards,

Bonita

The Anxiety Toolbox
By Michelle Paget, LCSW

With the first day of school here, we need to equip our kids with the skills they need to succeed. One of my favorite techniques to use with kids who feel anxious or sad is the coping "toolbox". With the help of my kids and their parents, we work together to create a personalized stash of tools that can be used in times of stress, sadness, frustration and even boredom!

Below is a list of ten of my (and my kids) favorites. How do your kids calm down?

Get That Core Working!
By Katrina Phillip, Energetic Juniors Certified Youth Fitness Specialist

Core strength is an essential component of fitness.  The following is one of many exercises I use to develop this strength in children, and to make sure they are having FUN while doing it!

Word Association Sit-Ups
  1. Trainer or parent holds the child's feet down- child is in a sit-up position (feet firmly planted on the ground, knees up, back flat on the floor).
  2. Trainer says a word, and then the child sits up and says a word that first comes to his mind after hearing the trainer's word.
  3. You keep going until a word is repeated. If a word is repeated all do a push-up.
This is just one of many ways to turn exercise into play and to develop a child's core strength.

Children return from camp itching for activity, and not just any activity, lots of variety. This is a critical time to take advantage of your child's interest in a new sport, dance or fitness game that they played while at camp.

When designing our post-summer camp personal training programs we use this information to customize each session. The outcome is a program that is focused, engaging, fun and most of all keeps your child fit and healthy.

With school having just started, now is the time to register your child to work with one of our caring and qualified Energetic Juniors Youth Fitness Specialists.
