How Exercise Keeps Us Young

An article recently published in the New York Times follows a study of cyclists aged 55-79 with a high degree of physical fitness.  They were put through various physical and cognitive tests to look at the effects of exercise on age-related physical decline.  The test results revealed that most of the participants were functioning on a level similar to young people.

The article explains how much of the physical decline associated with aging is in fact in the hands of the individual.  Exercise appears to minimize age-related declines extremely well.  Dr. Stephen Harridge, the leader of the study says, "being physically active makes your body function on the inside more like a young person's."
