Greetings!

 

What a busy summer this has been for everyone in the Energetic Juniors community!  While some of our favorite clients were at camp or on vacation, our devoted EJ trainers were receiving professional development seminars to perfect their skills to serve all children, including those with special needs.

 

When my two girls were younger they attended camp every summer.  Camp was a great way for them to meet new people, have fun and open their world to new experiences.  With the variety of camp activities and structured days, they would return home each summer looking fit and healthy.

 

So, it's no surprise when I hear parents say to me, "I wish my child could continue being as active as they were in camp."  I HEAR THIS EVERY FALL.  

 

This is why, since the beginning of Energetic Juniors 17 years ago, our personal training programs have been designed to help children maintain these activity levels after summer camp is over. Check out our section below on Camp Games at Home.  

   

MOST CHILDREN will return from camp itching for activity. This is a critical time to take advantage of your child's interest in a new sport, dance or fitness game that they played while at camp. DON'T MISS THIS GREAT WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY!

Energetic Juniors for the Whole Family: Camp Games Year Round!

If you are a parent that's worried that summer camp is over and your child will go back to watching endless hours of TV and playing video games, then try these fitness games.  This fall, in our newsletters and on our blog, we will be sharing some great camp games that you and your family can play anytime!

Each game is designed to mimic summer camp games, which are high energy, challenging and fun.  Your help will be required.

Camp games aren't just for camp!
Do As I Say, Not What I Do:
 
The goal of this game is for your child to follow the movements that you are telling them to do.  Your job is to try and confuse them by showing them a different movement.

1.  Designate a small, open space. Have your child stand at least 6 feet in front of you so they can clearly see what you're doing.

Prevent The First Diet!

This month we are so lucky to have a very important submission from a new friend of EJ, Dr. Doris Pastore.  Dr. Pastore is in private practice at  Adolescent-Young Adult Medicine in NYC and is currently on the voluntary faculty and attending staff of the Mount Sinai Medical Center, and Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatrics and Sub-board of Adolescent Medicine.  Her unique practice serves young people, from ages 9 to 30.
 
This is the best way to prevent eating disorders. Research shows that it is during the transition years of physical development, meaning during the tween years that "weird" eating patterns are commonly tried. This is especially true among females while among males this tends to occur in the mid-to-late teen years.

 

Some tweens are shocked to realize that their bodies can be expected to change drastically. In fact it is during this time frame that 25% of final adult height is achieved and that growth in height demands an initial increase in weight that during puberty is about 25 pounds for girls and 40 pounds for boys. Adolescents often perceive themselves overweight when they are not! The physical changes of puberty continue for several years.
