OSU CRAFT BREWERY START-UP WORKSHOP I SCHOLARSHIP OPENS APRIL 1ST.

2014 Oregon State University Craft Brewery Start-up Workshop I - Scholarship Opens April 1st, runs till April 30th 11:59pm PST.

In partnership with Oregon State University, Pink Boots Society is proud to announce its second scholarship opportunity for 2014. The window for this PBS-OSU Craft Brewery Start-up Workshop I scholarship runs April 1-30, 2014, and closes at 11:59 pm PST on the last day.

This OSU course is a residence-based course. It takes place in Bend, Oregon September 8-12, 2014.

Details about the course can be found on the Oregon State University website: https://pace.oregonstate.edu/catalog/craft-brewery-startup-workshop

To apply for the scholarship, please wait until April 1st, then visit the Pink Boots Society website: http://pinkbootssociety.org/scholarship-application/

Please note, this scholarship is directed to women who seek the assistance from a formal training program to develop an actionable business plan to start up a brewery.

This is an on-site course that is being offered in Bend, Oregon USA, and the scholarship covers tuition as well as breakfast and lunch during each day of the course. The scholarship recipient will be expected to book their own transportation to and from Bend, secure lodging and cover any additional costs incurred during the course.

There is a $200 deposit required of the chosen scholarship recipient, and upon successful completion the deposit will be refunded. Also upon completion, the scholarship recipient will receive a $1,000 (USD) stipend to help with transportation and lodging costs.

Any woman who earns income from beer, anywhere in the world, is eligible to apply for any Pink Boots Society scholarship, and earning beer income also automatically qualifies a woman for Pink Boots Society membership. Click here to join or to connect with us: http://pinkbootssociety.org/membership/.

All PBS scholarships have a "Pay It Forward" requirement, where our scholarship recipients pay forward the knowledge they gained in their scholarship course. This is accomplished through either publishing an article or giving a speech at a national professional seminar or conference. More information on our Pay It Forward requirement is available on our website, http://pinkbootssociety.org/scholarship-application/. (This link will not go live until April 1st.)

Please note that scholarship recipients are announced approximately 6 weeks after the scholarship application deadline.

Best wishes to the applicants!

EXCITING SCHOLARSHIP CHANGES COMING

We've got great changes in store for the second half of 2014: We're expanding our scholarship program--already! We've attracted some new scholarship opportunities that we just can't pass up. Therefore we need to double the size of our current Scholarship Selection Committee from 5 to 10 or more volunteers, and we'll be splitting it into Team A and Team B. Please see below on how to volunteer.

In the second half of 2014, you can look forward to one scholarship opportunity every month! All scholarships will run on a calendar month schedule, with one new scholarship campaign beginning on the first day of each month, and the same scholarship ending at 11:59 pm on the last day of that month. In 2015 we hope to offer a complete line-up of 12 scholarships. That is the maximum we can really handle with our current structure. We need your support: CLICK HERE TO DONATE any amount. We can't do this work without you.

PBS VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: EMILY ENGDAHL - PBS DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

Emily Engdahl, PBS International & National Chapter Liaison, Pacific NW Chapter Co-Coordinator & Meeting Coordinator

If Emily had to choose between craft beer and her beloved home state, the decision would be agonizing. Fortunately, she hails from Oregon, a craft beer paradise, so she can have it all!

Since tasting Ninkasi Brewing's Tricerahops in 2007, Emily has been proudly promoting both Oregon and craft beer. She is creator of Oregon Beer Country, a web resource for information on the state's breweries and events, and co-founder of #pdxbeergeeks, a Portland-based beer group and blog. She is a beer blogger for 1859 Magazine and has published beer-centric articles in Craftbeer.com, Travel OregonMilwaukie Rules! and Oregon Beer Growler.

Besides volunteer work at Pink Boots Society as Girl Friday for Teri Fahrendorf, Emily manages a small business assisting the mentally ill and elderly. As if that wasn't enough, she's also a freelance writer & graphic designer, home brewer, artist, dog & kid wrangler, and beer drinker. You can find Emily at [email protected]

HELP WANTED: SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION COMMITTEE TEAM MEMBERS

The Pink Boots Society is looking for members to fill seats on the Scholarship Selection Committee (SSC).

The SSC is growing and we are looking for women from various backgrounds within the beer industry. We currently offer six scholarships annually but have received overwhelming interest in offering more - possibly up to 12 scholarships annually.

We will be splitting the current team so that each of the two teams will be a mix of existing SSC members and new volunteers. Each team will be reviewing scholarship applications on an every other month basis with two weeks to get your preliminary notes in on the scholarship applications you read along with your top three choices. Then as a team you and the other four committee members have two more weeks to pick your number one choice and give that name to Pink Boots Society founder Teri Fahrendorf and Kris McDowell, Scholarship Administrator.

It is a two-year commitment and we are looking for self-starters who can hit deadlines without someone nagging them. During your two-year commitment, nobody will know you are on the committee. We keep it secret so that no applicants know who looked at and decided on their application. It keeps things cleaner. Once you "retire", then we can happily thank you publicly and you are free to put your service on your resume at that time.

Once your two-year commitment is up, then you have to wait one year to apply for a scholarship. We require this to make sure nobody can say that any favoritism was shown for a previous SSC member.

If your situation changes and you find yourself unable to complete your two-year service you will need to notify the committee chair as soon as possible so that we can begin searching for your replacement.

To apply for the Scholarship Selection Committee please fill out our Volunteer e-form on our website at the bottom of this page: http://www.pinkbootssociety.org/our-volunteers/. Please be sure to include a link to your online resume or your LinkedIn profile to be used as part of the selection process. Our Scholarship Administrator and the current SSC Team will review your volunteer application and will get back to you soon. Thank you for volunteering!

THE EASIEST WAY TO SUPPORT PINK BOOTS SOCIETY EVER !
Our webmaster, Sibyl Perkins writes...

Hey Teri-I found out something very cool today. Smile.amazon.com has a new program that allows users to pick a charity of their choice for Amazon to contribute .5% of all purchases (at no cost to the user). I just picked Pink Boots Society for mine. Since PBS is a 501c3, it shows up on the list if you search on Pink Boots Society

Here's a link about it:

I don't know about you, but I shop with Amazon a LOT. I think it would be great to get the word out to see if we can get others who shop with Amazon to use it as an opportunity to support PBS!

I agree. Let's do this ladies--Please do this NOW. We need your support.
