Pink Girl with Beer
This issue of PBS e-news provides updates from our 2 most recent Scholarship application drives, the upcoming deadline for our current Cicerone Beer Savvy scholarship, and information about our goal to find a Grant Writer-Executive Director for PBS within the year.

Every founder of any new organization puts their creative hat on and gets to work building. Others volunteer and join in the task at hand. Eventually there comes a time when the founder knows someone more skilled at administrative duties can take the organization further than she can. It is called "wingspan," and PBS is beginning to outgrow mine.

Please help us grow Pink Boots Society into the amazing mature international women-oriented professional beer education nonprofit it was born to be. We are doing good work in the beer world. Let's keep it up!

SENSORY ANALYSIS - SIEBEL SENSORY PANEL MANAGEMENT RECIPIENT ANNOUNCED
Rachelle Smith
If you've been keeping your eye on our scholarship program, you may have noticed that the name of this scholarship was changed. Originally this was called the OSU Sensory Analysis Scholarship. However OSU had to cancel this scholarship after we chose our recipient. Luckily our amazing friends at Siebel were willing to pick up the ball on this scholarship, and have partnered with us to bring our recipient a replacement 3-day course that covers exactly what she needs to learn. Therefore...

Pink Boots Society and the Siebel Institute of Brewing Technology are proud to announce Rachelle Smith of San Diego, California as the recipient of our second PBS-Siebel partnered scholarship, the Siebel Sensory Panel Management Course in Chicago. Rachelle is currently employed as...  Read the whole article here.

OSU CRAFT BREWERY START-UP WORKSHOP SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT ANNOUNCED
Meagan Hatfield
Pink Boots Society and Oregon State University are proud to announce Meagan Hatfield of Portland, Oregon as the recipient of our first PBS-OSU partnered scholarship. Meagan is a partner in the future Wingnut Brewing Company. She and her business partner have already purchased their 7-barrel brewery and are looking for a location to lease.

The PBS Scholarship Selection Committee says, "All of the applicants were very competent and each deserved a scholarship, but Meagan was the standout. She has demonstrated her commitment to her longtime dream of owning and operating a brewpub by doing her research and crafting her rough draft business plan. With a university degree in Biology and a Senior Project in brewing water chemistry, plus professional experience as a Lab Tech at... Click here to read the whole article.

WHO IS ON THE SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION COMMITTEE?
Who is on the Scholarship Selection Committee (SSC)? It's a secret on purpose:

Our PBS Scholarship Selection Committee members volunteer anonymously while in their post to avoid potential undue influence. You will only know who has served after they "retire" from the PBS SSC.

We would like to recognize Denise Jones' volunteer service while she was a member of the PBS Scholarship Selection Committee. Thank you Denise!

SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION COMMITTEE RELEASES CODE OF ETHICS

The Pink Boots Society Scholarship Selection Committee (PBS SSC) published their Code Of Ethics on our website some time ago. It is reprinted here so more members are aware of it:

The PBS SSC is made up of a diverse group of women beer professionals whose main objective is to award each scholarship opportunity to the most fitting applicant and one who demonstrates she will represent the PBS in a professional manner. Each member of the PBS SSC is expected to behave in a manner that ensures that she is making the most objective decision to award scholarships to the best candidate for each scholarship opportunity. This includes, but is not limited to, taking action to avoid any appearance of favoritism to a particular candidate or the use of undue influence by any member(s) of the committee over other members. The aim of the PBS SSC is to make these educational opportunities accessible to the greatest number of women beer professionals through the scholarship programs that we offer.

PREPARING FOR GROWTH: PBS SEEKS GRANT WRITER-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

It has taken a team of women beer professionals, and the support of many men, and non-beer professionals to grow PBS to where it is today. I have done my best as "mother" and mentor to all those who have relied on me to keep PBS moving forward. But I know my own limits: I am a creative type. I created PBS. But I am not an administrator, and I am not an Executive Director.

It is time for PBS to enter the research stage of searching for a person who can not only administer PBS, but who can write the grants and secure the endowments to fund their own salary, as well as fund our growing scholarship program. This is a serious task for a young nonprofit, but it is required for 3 simple reasons:

1.  To avoid founder burnout.

2.  To run efficiently with timely responses to requests.

3.To grow appropriately as services expand in response to member demand.

If you know a grant writer with nonprofit administrative and operations experience... especially one with experience managing nonprofit boards and board members, please let me know.

My goal is to find, install, and have an Executive Director fully running Pink Boots Society within one year. I will stay on in an advisory & creative role and possibly as Board President & Treasurer.

EXECUTIVE SEARCH COMMITTEE MEMBERS NEEDED

Pink Boots Society was founded in the summer of 2007. As we enter our 6th year of existence, it is clear that we need help to grow to the next level required of a successful nonprofit education and scholarship-generating charity: We need an Executive Director and the funds to support such an administrator.

I am looking for PBS members to serve on an Executive Search Committee. Pink Boots Society takes a Team to be Successful. The responsibility of choosing a great Executive Director-Grant Writer should be shared. Please volunteer. Email [email protected].

And when you see or meet our current fine Volunteers and PBS Co-Creators, please tell them THANK YOU! Here is the list: http://pinkbootssociety.org/our-volunteers/
