Greetings! |
Pink Boots Society is excited to announce the launch of our shiny new website!
The new site is now a fully social destination website that will allow members to post profiles, network, participate in groups and forums, "friend" other PBS members, message them privately, and promote your events, services and products on your profile or through advertising on the site (the proceeds of which will go toward more scholarships). The site also has a PBS event calendar and blog, along with new, easier forms for applying for scholarships.
Your ACTION is required to be a part of it.
This amazing connecting space for women beer professionals was brought to us by PBS members and sponsors Sibyl Perkins and her team at Sibyl Design, Inc. Thank you Sibyl & Kaylea! You rock!

YOUR ACTION IS NEEDED TO ACTIVATE YOUR ONLINE PROFILE & MEMBERSHIP |
Since the new site is a social site, it will require user registration, so we are asking all members to sign up anew--but don't worry, if you're currently a member, you will be approved right away, without going through the membership review process. We realize it's a small inconvenience, but feel like it will be well worth the trouble because of all the new features available to members.
Here are the steps to sign up for access to the new site:
1) Go to http://pinkbootssociety.org/membership-application/ and sign up. It's a 2-part process - two separate forms you will be asked to complete. The first form sends the Membership Committee notification of your application, and the second form will fill out your website profile. You must complete both forms to access members-only areas of the site.
2) Once you receive your email that you have been approved, just go http://pinkbootssociety.org and login. From there, you will be able to upload your profile photo, make changes to your profile, participate in groups and forums, and start making friends with other members.
We're looking forward to seeing you all online!

TWO VOLUNTEERS NEEDED |
We have an immediate need for two member volunteers:
NATIONAL USA MEETING COORDINATOR
You will be responsible for coordinating our meeting spaces at the GABF and the CBC. Most importantly, you will invite and coordinate our speakers for our GABF Meeting & Educational Seminar. If you are good at communication, very responsible, good at follow-up and follow through, and want to meet some top-tier PBS member/speakers, this volunteer position is for you. Teri will teach you.
REGIONAL & INTERNATIONAL MEETING COORDINATOR
You will be the go-to gal for any PBS member looking to host a PBS regional or international meeting. You will keep our "Meeting Kit" updated, and be well-versed in the nuances of what a meeting requires. You will have to be good with email communication as many requests are from overseas. You will keep track of Regional & International meetings and make sure our PBS Event Coordinator, Ashleigh Carter, is informed so she can keep our PBS Calendar up-to-date. And you will need to follow-up after these meetings with the organizer so you both can learn and improve, based on how the experience went. You'll also help our International members understand what Pink Boots is, and how to best connect with us. If you love connecting with women beer professionals from all over the world, this volunteer position is for you. Teri will teach you.
If you want one of these two volunteer positions, and you can commit to it for at least two years, please email Teri Fahrendorf at teri@pinkbootssociety.org. |
MEET OUR FIRST SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT |
Unless you have been sleeping under a rock, you know that PBS launched our Scholarship Program in 2013, after receiving our hard-won 501(c)3 tax-exempt charity status from the IRS...
In association with our schlolarship partner, the Siebel Institute for Brewing Technology, we are proud to announce the recipient of Pink Boots Society's first scholarship: Jessica Heidrich of Stockholm, Sweden. Jessica will be taking Siebel's WBA web-based Concise Course in Brewing Technology on May 5, 2013. Please see www.siebelinstitute.com for information about this course.
The PBS Scholarship Selection Committee is made up of five very experienced women beer professionals, currently brewers, beer educators and beer writers.
Here is the Scholarship Selection Committee's statement about chosing Jessica Heidrich...Click here for the rest of the story. |
UPCOMING SCHOLARSHIPS |
Our next three scholarships will come in quick succession over the coming summer. All three are Oregon State University scholarships, our newest scholarship partner.
Although we have other amazing web-based scholarships waiting in the wings, we had to move OSU's to the front of the pack because these are residence-based scholarships. This means they are time-sensitive, and they will be held in Oregon USA in July and September.
Please stay tuned for announcements about our upcoming scholarship to OSU's Beer Sensory Testing Course. Online scholarsihp applications will open on our website on May 1st, and will close on May 31st for this course. This course will be held in Bend, Oregon USA on July 31-August 2. (3 days, 4 nights.) OSU is offering us a complete scholarship for this course. Applicants (or their employers) must be prepared to pay transportation, lodging and meal costs. Upon successful completion of the course, the scholarship recipient will be eligible for a $500 stipend from Pink Boots Society to help defray these costs.
It takes us about three months to move completely through the scholarship process to the start date on a course, and as you know we are 100% volunteer run, and we all have fantastic careers to nurture as well as taking care of Pink Boots Society in our off-hours. And we don't want to run our hard-working volunteer Scholarship Selection Committe team members ragged!
Several non-PBS scholarship deadlines are always approaching. Please google them for details:
Glenn Hay Falconer Scholarship to both the American Brewers Guild and the Siebel Institute.
Greg Noonan Scholarship to the American Brewers Guild
Master Brewers Association of the Americas MBAA has both national and regional scholarship programs.

ARE YOU JUDGE-WORTHY? |
If you are a beer professional (and hopefully a PBS member), you may have the experience and chops to become a professional beer judge. The requirements are straight forward: How much professional sensory experience and training do you have? That's pretty much the bottom line: Are you Experienced?
|
MEMBER MEDIA SALES TABLE |
We invite PBS members who are beer writers or otherwise produce beer media, to share your beer knowledge, and bring your books, CDs or DVDs to sell at a Member Media Sales Table at any meeting. You will handle your own sales.
No donation is necessary, but because we now have 501(c)3 status, we would appreciate you donating a small proportion of your proceeds from sales at our meeting to PBS's scholarship fund. |
|
The Pink Boots Society is committed to the advancement of the education of women beer professionals, either by developing educational scholarships, or by hosting educational speakers and seminars at our regional and national meetings. If you are a woman who earns income from beer, I encourage you to join us.
Cheers to you! |
