Spring 2014

Greetings

Globalization is happening everywhere! At Change Guides we are communicating across the globe every day. Our Spring Newsletter features an article about globalization, The World is Flat and That Means Big Change. Our customers are trying to embrace the flattening world to stay competitive, looking for the best resources, unrestricted by boundaries.

Our second article announces some exciting news at Change Guides! We are happy to announce that The Change Management Pocket Guide is now be available in an eBook format for Android and Apple devices. We have listened to our customers and their needs for an electronic book.... and we have delivered!

As always, keep in touch and let us know what you think!  E-mail Feedback.

All the best,
Kate and Stacy

The World is Flat and That Means Big Change
"The World is Flat", the national best seller, has greatly impacted business thinking. Although written in 2005, it's still relevant today. Recently, a CEO required his management team to read the book as a wake-up call that business as usual was "not an option". According to the author, Thomas Friedman, "flattening of the world means ...that we are now connecting all the knowledge centers of the planet together into a single global network...it is now possible for more people than ever to collaborate and compete in real time with more of everything."

Flattening is more than globalization and outsourcing although that is part of it. One of my clients recently sent a team to China for the first time to learn about manufacturing capabilities. They are viewing the world as flat, looking for the best resources, unrestricted by boundaries. Another company did a study to determine design capabilities in India. Equally qualified engineers charge 10% of engineers in the US. They are asking themselves, "should we move our design process over there?" Even our company, Change Guides, is impacted by a flattened world. We receive requests for The Change Management Pocket Guide from everywhere.

Our Change Management Pocket Guide is Now an App!

Many of our customers have asked over the past year about offering our Change Management Pocket Guide as an eBook. We listened. Change Guides is very excited to introduce The Change Management Pocket Guide in a mobile App format!

Here is some information about our new App:

The Change Management Pocket Guide mobile application is a practical resource for anyone tasked with making change happen. The tactical, hands-on electronic pocket guide is a fully functioning and integrated mobile app solution for Android and Apple devices.

Like the hard copy book, the Change Management Pocket Guide app uses the Change Management 101 Model to step you through three major phases of managing change: Plan, Do and Sustain. These three major phases are broken down into the two specific stages as you move from one phase to the next. The tools in the Change Management Pocket Guide are used to interactively gather information, set milestones, and measure progress. There are over 30 valuable change management tools and templates that are integrated within the mobile solution so that they can be purchased, downloaded and easily customized to match the requirements of your specific change challenge. Each tool in the change toolbox is detailed, flexible and scalable.

Have you approached projects differently after the certification? If so, how?

Absolutely, the tools that we were introduced to in the certification not even gave me a place to start when talking about implementing change but also gave me new perspective on how to build a culture that understands change. Every project we do has some aspect of change associated with it and looking at things from that POV has helped us create better strategies to support our organization.

What advice do you have for others trying to drive change?

Don't speed through it and pretend it isn't there. Address it. Talk about it. Support everyone that will be impacted by it.

What one thing has helped you the most in driving change in your organization?

Talking about it. Calling out that X project will require systems, processes and or behaviors to change. Once we know it's happening we can identify what we need to do and how we need to do it to ensure our population is ready, excited and educated about what's to come!
