Mini Miracle Day - Thank You!

Thank you to all who were among the 70 people who were part of the Mini Miracle Day at the Oakland Peace Center (OPC) on May 7!

OPC is a ministry of the Christian Church of Northern California-Nevada and in true partnership the Center and the Region worked together to landscape, fix stairs, paint rooms, put down a new floor in one of the rooms. Other work included cleaning up, clearing up, remodeling, refurbishing, and renewing parts to the historic building that is home to several non-profit community based organizations, along with First Christian Church, Oakland and a congregation of Mongolian Christians. The work was done by volunteers connected to the OPC, the Mongolian congregation, members of the United Church of Christ, and Disciples congregations. People came from Sacramento and San Jose and points in between, and we were joined by a National Benevolent Association staff member from Kentucky.

Regional staff also participated in Mini Miracle day.

Participants embodied what it means for us to work in partnership with community members, practice putting our faith to work, and to proclaim justice through solidarity with those who make a difference in the lives of more than 80,000 whose lives are touched by the work of OPC.

Special thanks and gratitude are due to Eula Pagdilao, our XPLOR intern who planned and coordinated the event, to Bob Moore and Jeffrey Ishmael who chaired the event, and to Sandhya Jha, the Executive Director of the Oakland Peace Center. And of course the day would not have been a success without the contributions of each person who gave a special contribution, offered a prayer, or who lent their physical strength and ability to the day. In doing each of these things, you personify the love of God.

Blessings to you all!

Vagina Monologues - Postponed

Women's Ministries regrets to announce that we are postponing this production of
The Vagina Monologues -- but we are looking for a new date to hold the production later in the Fall or early in 2017.  This is a fantastic production and we believe enthusiastically that we need to hold it to show the sacred worth of women's bodies.  We will be working on some potential future dates and start promoting the event soon.  In the meantime, we'll look forward to seeing you soon at our Fall Retreat on Sept. 22-24.  Thank you for your interest in the event.  We will be in touch soon.

For the week of May 22, 2016

Let us pray for their vitality, spiritual and numerical growth, their commitment to serving their neighborhood and their openness to the Spirit of God calling them into ministry in the 21st century. Please consider incorporating this congregation into your congregational prayers this week during worship or in your newsletter, so we can grow together in prayer.

Please pray for the churches who are in transition.
