Clergy Gathering at Annual Gathering

As we kick off Annual Gathering weekend, you are invited to a special pre-event with Dr. Michael Kinnamon on Thursday, April 7 from 2-5pm at First Christian Church in Sacramento. Dr. Kinnamon will lead a panel discussion with our regional clergy regarding the current state of ministry and what might be next for our clergy and our church. Panel speakers will include Regional clergy, Michael Hamm, Ted Firch, Gwynn Fuqua, and Janet Chapman. Don't miss this opportunity to learn and share and vision for the NEXT phase of Church.

A light supper will follow the discussion. Participants will be asked to donate $7 to cover the cost of the mea. Please RSVP to the Regional Office to help plan for dinner.
Mission Gathering

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is engaged in a church wide initiative designed to help us discern what the next phase of our life of discipleship and mission will be. The initiative is called Mission First! Officially, "Mission First! Is Disciples finding shared focus in mission. It includes a call to mission engagement and a two year pilot of a structure to hold us accountable for that mission."

Among the questions being discussed are these:

-      What is God calling us to do in the world?
-      How are we sharing the good news we are with others?
-      Where do we see God's mission happening in the world now?

Disciples are gathering throughout the United States and Canada at Mission Gatherings to name and share the places they see mission happening. Such a gathering will take place in Northern California.

Prayerfully consider joining Northern California-Nevada Disciples on April 8 for a Mission Gathering Friday, April 8 from 12:00 noon-2:30pm in the Council Room at Arden Christian Church in Sacramento.

Your participation will make a real difference in our church's future.

You can register at ccncn.org; look on the webpage for "CCNC-N 162nd Annual Gathering" or call the regional office and let Jim know that you will be attending.
Mini Miracle Day

By now you have probably heard about the Mini-Miracle Day that will be held at the Oakland Peace Center on May 7 to spruce up this place that cultivates peace in Oakland -- we're looking forward to seeing a ton of Disciples show up with their hammers and paint brushes!  Right now, we have two major needs for volunteers.  1) Financial donations -- right now $875 has been donated out of a minimum of $5,000.  We're well on our way to the first financial goal, and every donation helps.  2) Volunteers who will be present on May 7 to help out with the projects -- all skills levels are needed!

Psssst...

Guess what is coming soon to our Region?  It's a word you don't always hear in church...get ready....

The women of our Region will be performing
The Vagina Monologues on May 21, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Oakland Peace Center (111 Fairmount Ave., Oakland, CA).  Tickets will be sold on a sliding scale from $10-$20; proceeds will benefit a local center that fights domestic violence against women.  Why are we doing this performance?  As a women's church group??  In a sanctuary??  Glad you asked!  We want to promote healthy sexuality in connection with church and our spiritual lives. Our production of The Vagina Monologues shows an unashamed and loving view of the bodies that the Creator shaped.  Our local Disciples and UCC women will be in the performance!  This is a Trans Women inclusive event.

If you're interested in performing (no experience required) or in assisting hospitality or publicity, contact Veronica Dise-Hodge

Ah, summer. The time of year we all look forward to kick back, enjoy the good weather, and finally just relax. And if you're like me, you'd like to stop time (or at least slow it down a little) so we can take advantage of all that summer has to offer.

We hope your summer will get off to a great start, and we'd like to make it even better!

Let us pray for their vitality, spiritual and numerical growth, their commitment to serving their neighborhood and their openness to the Spirit of God calling them into ministry in the 21st century. Please consider incorporating this congregation into your congregational prayers this week during worship or in your newsletter, so we can grow together in prayer.
