2015 MLK Awardees

With blessings and congratulations to Ethel Sturgis and Natalie Chamberlain, awardees of the CCNC-N Reconciliation 2015 MLK Awards!

Each year, the CCNC-N recognizes the great achievements for justice that have been contributed by Disciples in this region. The people who win the award (by nomination) exemplify the qualities of Dr. King.

In addition to the MLK Award, our region's reconciliation also gives out an annual MLK scholarship to a college student from the region who exhibits a commitment to living out Dr. King's legacy in their lives and in their communities.

Reconciliation Grant Application

Part of the vision of the Christian Church of Northern CA-NV is "Living into our God-given reconciling, open and inclusive identity which challenges the sins of racism, exclusion and oppression." In keeping with that vision, the purpose of the Reconciliation Grant Program is to support congregations in doing that same work of building up a reconciling, open and inclusive identity, challenging the sins of racism, exclusion and oppression. Endeavors addressing root causes of racism are especially welcome. The deadline for submitting a Reconciliation Grant in 2016 will be March 22. Recipients will be announced at the Regional Gathering in April. Grant recipients will be contacted for a "midway point update" in September of the same year. Reconciliation grants from the CCNC-N range from approximately $500 - $1000, with the hope that the congregation will raise or seek additional funds elsewhere.

A Call to Prayer
By Danny Gulden

Philippians 1:5-6 Common English Bible

"I'm glad because of the way you have been my partners in the ministry of the gospel from the time you first believed it until now.  I'm sure about this: the one who started a good work in you will stay with you to complete the job by the day of Christ Jesus. "

Any work of transformation is a marathon, not a sprint. As Paul opens his letter to the church at Philippi, he is offering words of encouragement to people entering into a new way of life through relationship with God and one another. They are not alone on this journey. We are not alone on this journey. As we seek to be more the people and the church that God has created us to be, we have the assurance that the One who has started this good work in us will be present with us every step of the way.
  • This week, take a moment to reflect on how you might take partner with God in encouraging another on their journey of faith. Write a note, share a simple gift or offer an encouraging word.

Prayer: Gracious and Loving God, we are grateful that you have called us to be partners with you in the ministry of the Gospel. Through Mission First! may the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) become even more faithful partners in this ministry of wholeness to all people. Open our hearts, minds, and spirits to the new ways of life you call us to live. Amen
