Eula Cuts My Hair
by Rachel Thomson

We got home, and I wet my hair and sat myself down in a chair in our living room, which also serves as both Mel's bedroom and dining room and Eula's study hall. I asked Eula if we should put down newspapers, and she said, "Nah, we'll vacuum." Good enough for me. I asked if she wanted to pull part of my hair up so she could cut the bottom part before the top. She said, "Nah, I got this." Good enough for me.

A Call to Prayer
By Denise Bell

Romans 16: 25 English Standard Version
Now to God who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages.

After everything has been said and done through Paul's testimony, "he drops the mic" and speaks a benediction over the lives of believers then and now. He releases the believer into the hands of God, that God might strengthen us for the journey ahead according to the power of the good news of Jesus Christ and his great and inexhaustible love for their lives and the nations.
  • Mission First is about our seeking God's strength to make The Christian Church (DOC) a greater testimony of God's power to love and heal brokenness in these challenging times. Write down and pray about the areas that you need God to strengthen you so that your life becomes a greater testimony of God's power to love and heal brokenness in your life, family, church, and community.
Prayer: Lord in the name of Jesus strengthen us in the coming year that we might proclaim Jesus and the acts of God's great love through Christ. Let us not be distracted by the turbulence in our lives and world. Rather, help us to become more focused on our calling through the gospel to make known and lift up Jesus and his marvelous love so that in that day, that day where there is the greatest need, hearts will turn to him.

CCNC-N Regional Anti-Racism Boundary Training

Fri February 5, 1-8pm and Sat, February 9am-5pm

Are you unsure what the difference is between racism and personal prejudice? How is racism a system beyond individual choices? Why does racism still grip the United States? And how can we participate as people of faith in its dismantling internally and socially?

If these questions interest you, you should consider attending the 1.5 day workshop.   You don't have to have been trained before.  All it requires is some time and an open heart and mind.  Clergy, laity, activists, and allies are all welcome! The training will be held in the Bay Area and will meet the yearly boundary training requirement for DOC clergy.  Costs with include dinner on Friday,  light breakfast and lunch on Saturday.  Trainers Revs. Sandhya Jha and David Bell, both DOC Clergy, will be leading us through a series of conversations and activities that look at race and power.
