MLK Event Update

Each year, the CCNC-N recognizes the great achievements for justice that have been contributed by Disciples in this region. The people who win the award (by nomination) exemplify the qualities of Dr. King.

In addition to the MLK Award, our region's reconciliation also gives out an annual MLK scholarship to a college student from the region who exhibits a commitment to living out Dr. King's legacy in their lives and in their communities.

The MLK awards will be presented at a worship service scheduled for Saturday, January 9, 2016 at First Christian Church of Watsonville.

A call to prayer for Mission First!

Nov. 13, 2015
Thank you for your prayers. The Mission First! Implementation Team conducted a test Mission Gathering this week at Disciple Center. Keep at it! There are some tests in congregational settings in the coming weeks.
By Howard Bowers

Acts 16: 9 New Revised Standard Version

During the night Paul had a vision: there stood a man of Macedonia pleading with him and saying, 'Come over to Macedonia and help us.'

The lead up to this verse shows Paul and his colleagues seem stuck with a message that they can't get out. Turned away, rebuffed, unable to get a fair hearing, the message seems likely to die out. Then Paul has a vision: Macedonia needs help. This vision changes Paul's group from nomads to missionaries who partner with the Macedonians (Philippians) to share the message of God's love. The vision that brings life to the church is one that responds to the needs of the world. Where do you here the world calling,

Take a moment and consider where God is calling you and your congregation to go and join with others to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Lord, open our senses so that we might have the vision to partner with others in their place of deepest need.

ANNOUNCING:  Sessions 2016
July 8-10, 2016

"O Lord, you have searched me and known me . . . it was you who formed my inward parts;  you knit me together in my mother's womb." Psalm 139: 1 & 13.

The above scripture makes it clear that God is an intimate God.  Our God KNOWS us and "knit us together. . ."  This is powerful language.  Isaiah uses similar language: "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;  I have called you by name, you are mine." Isaiah 43: 1b.

Sessions 2016 will be gathering at Texas Christian University on July 8-10, 2016 around the Theme: You Are Called by Name.  Disciples Men from across the United States and Canada will be coming to experience God's presence with us and God Calling us by Name to be leaders of God's Church.

Come experience the southern hospitality of the Texas Christian University.  Speakers for the weekend include: Todd Adams, Newell Williams, Alvin Jackson, and Rita Nakashima Brock.  Come HANG YOUR HAT IN FORT WORTH at Sessions 2016.

Laughter is the Best Medicine for Holiday Blues!

Join us at Arden Christian Church on Friday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m. for an evening of Christian comedy and inspiration as we welcome Stephen B, a stand-up comedian with more than 33 years of experience performing in comedy clubs, corporate clients, and churches nationwide.

He's opened up for Julio Iglesias, Manhattan Transfer, Weird Al and a host of other headlining musical acts over the years. Stephen has had supporting roles in three movies and has been seen on Comedy Central. He's performed at Spirit West Coast and on the KLOVE Cruise and has just released his first book, The Road to Selfdom.

The event is FREE, but we'll take an offering to show support for Stephen's hilarious ministry of sharing the Word through laughter. And....to make the most of the evening, consider joining us for a Christmas party potluck dinner starting at 5:30. Bring your yummies, your friends, neighbors, and families, and then laugh your cares away!

Arden CC is located at 4300 Las Cruces Way, Sacramento.

We lift up these churches in prayer
For this week:
Sparks, First Christian Church; Steve Wren, Pastor

Let us pray for their vitality, spiritual and numerical growth, their commitment to serving their neighborhood and their openness to the Spirit of God calling them into ministry in the 21st century. Please consider incorporating this congregation into your congregational prayers this week during worship or in your newsletter, so we can grow together in prayer.

Please pray for the churches who are in transition.

Blessings for the following churches

FCC Colusa - who called Bob Green as their pastor earlier this year and welcomed three new members (two by baptism) during Easter. (We, at the region, apologize for the tardiness of this announcement).
