XPLOR Update

Our XPLOR Residents have arrived! Mel Hurley comes from Ohio. She will be working at Christian Church Homes, with Don Stump as her Mentor, and her host congregation is Lafayette Christian Church. Eula Pagdilao hales from SoCal. She will be working with the Region, Toni Bynum will be her Mentor, and Forest Hill is her host congregation. Rachel Thomson, from Virginia, will be working at Oakland Peace Center & East Bay Housing Organizations with Sandhya Jah as her Mentor, and Mills Grove is her host congregation.

Mel, Eula and Rachel, along with Nancy McKee-Jolda, our region's XPLOR Program Spiritual Companion & Team Coordinator, are part of a national program sponsored by the National Benevolent Association. They, along with the other 21 Residents and 6 Spiritual Companions, had an excellent and intensive week of preparations in St. Louis. The program included workshops and presentations on systemic racism, food insecurity, collaborative decision-making, budget-planning for modest budgets, and Disciples history.  The Residents led us all in meal blessings and evening worship in 5 languages.  There was night frisbie, singing, and lots of laughter.

We encourage you to go to nbacares.org/xplor to see photos of our CCNC-N Residents, and all the Residents, along with their reflections upon their XPLOR experience.  You will be proud of this Disciples program, and excited about the faith and vision of the 24 young adults of 2015-16 XPLOR.

And, you are warmly invited to be part of our CCNC-N welcoming event for Rachel, Eula and Mel,  September 12 at Lafayette CC!   In addition to meeting our Residents, the congregation of First Christian Church San Lorenzo will be honored as the people who funded our CCNC-N XPLOR program from their legacy account.   There will be an informal regional choir, a delicious dinner, and a wonderfully rousing concert by Jim & Jean Strathdee!   For tickets, call LCC at  (925)  283-8304.
