HELP FURNISH THE HOME FOR OUR XPLOR RESIDENTS

Your Golden Gate XPLOR Team has found a great home for our XPLOR Residents, Rachel Thomson, Eula Pagdilao and Mel Hurley: an apartment in an Alameda complex with fine garden space, bike shuttle into Oakland, and good connection to their work sites (Christian Church Homes, Oakland Peace Center, our CCNC-N Regional office).

They will be near the cultural diversity and innovations of Oakland and also have a comfortable, restful home.

Now, we need to furnish the home!  Yes, we need all the things you think of: beds & linens, a dining table & chairs, bath towels & wastepaper baskets, silverware & dishes, pots & pans, etal.....and special touches like a toaster and  vase for flowers!

Let's do this, CCNC-N friends!  You, as an individual or as a church, are invited to contribute items and/or funds for purchasing items.  Please call/email our House Contact team-member, David Sanderson of Mills Grove CC:  510-326-7108, dsande8198@aol.com.

You might also speak with the pastors/contacts of the congregations who will be hosting our Residents: Rev. Clarence Johnson of Mills Grove CC (510-639-7828)) Rev. Marty Williams or Mike Hecker of Lafayette CC (revmartylcc@gmail.com, michael_hecker@comcast.net), Rev. Gerry Brague of Forest Hill CC (Gerry@foster-brague.net).

Thank you for helping to welcome our CCNC-N Residents for an exciting, meaningful and challenging XPLOR journey of faith and community.

Volunteer to put a stop to Human Trafficking

Did you know that the Super Bowl is a hotbed of human trafficking?  Every year, people are trafficked for labor and sex work around the Super Bowl.  In 2016, the Super Bowl is in Santa Clara, and the South Bay Coalition to End Human Trafficking is working to combat trafficking at the event.  You've been hearing more and more about human trafficking -- we as Disciples are committed to ending this atrocity.

Here is how you can help.

We are looking for one volunteer who can attend meetings on the first Thursday morning of each month in San Jose.  The volunteer will attend the meetings, and find out what Disciples can do to help.  This person will pass information along to the Faith in Action team of Disciples Women.  Whoever volunteers is not responsible for putting the plan in action -- just relaying the information to us so that Faith in Action can form a plan on how to assist in ending human trafficking.

Do you feel called to assist with this effort?  Please contact Katy Valentine in the Regional Office at kvalentine@ccncn.org or call at 925-556-9900.

Red Chalice Hymnals Wanted

The First Congregational Church of Stockton would like to acquire some used red Chalice Hymnals.  If any DOC congregations have some to sell, please contact Carol Duns at c36duns@att.net -- or call her at (209) 477-3748.

Thanks so much.  As a long-time DOC member, I love that hymnbook and would like to get some copies for use in my current UCC congregation.  Anything you can do to get the word out would be greatly appreciated!

Chi Rho Camp 2015

Our Chi Rho camp was an exciting spirit filled week full of games, swimming, keynote addresses, family groups, and workshops. They even had a cupcake bake off! Awards were given for the best tasting, the best display, and over all best. Campers described the week as "awesome" and "the best camp ever" thanks to a fabulous and hard working staff!

Junior Camp 2015

Our energetic Junior campers spent a non stop week of activities at our beautiful CGC camp, some for the very first time. Every day a key note presentation touched their hearts, family groups met, swimming, hiking, crafts, and games filled their time. Days ended with songs and reflections around the campfire. The awesome staff cared for these young campers with understanding and much love.

The Leadership Academy is designed to empower courageous leaders whether they are called to lead a congregation through transformation, or even start a new church, they will benefit from this week of training. They will be introduced to new ways of leading, find inspiration for the art of ministry, and begin to find clarity for their church's mission. Building on the success of the new church movement, they will go back home eager to develop a contextually relevant congregation.
