REFLECTIONS

UNITY AND PEACE.

Knowing Scripture, its power and relevance forever, I invite you to meditate with me today...

In the book of Acts 10:28 the author relates an interesting story, in which Peter, while in the city of Caesarea spoke to his audience and said, " You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile.  But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure"  I truly believe someday, it will be to this Lord of all, to whom we will have to respond. What decisions and actions have we taken to favor the stranger?

Furthermore, in Deuteronomy 10:19 the author clearly addressed an issue that pertains
to social justice with his contemporaries when he stated "And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt."
In the matter that Abram set out to a strange land and endure hardships and mishaps, the Lord, on the other hand blessed this wandering spirit and the divine purpose unfold. revealed in the Hebrew narrative. We are all considered pilgrims and strangers on this earth; this holds true because our true citizenship awaits us in heaven.

And so, we are all invited to share our compassion as engaged Christians by supporting laws that contribute in keeping together as well as reuniting many families who are seriously affected and continue to struggle as the results of current mandates. In a way and to my understanding, this issue is a test and an opportunity in which we are called to engage in this most important enterprise as would Jesus Christ.

With a Prayerful Heart:
It is with sadness that I am writing to tell you that our friend, church member, and elder--Sharon McNeil--was welcomed into eternity this morning about 2:15 by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Sharon was at Feather River Hospital. Please pray for her grandson, Jeremiah McNeil, of Paradise, who was with her at her passing. Jeremiah has been a rock for Sharon during her illnesses. Also, please pray for comfort for her son Tim and grandson Terry of Texas, and her brother Larry and sister-in-law Carol.

Comfort each other as we will miss Sharon. We are grateful that she is no longer ill. We will let you know when memorial arrangements have been made.

God bless us all,
Pastors Jan and Dave

OTHER AREAS OF INTEREST
California State Senate Prayer
Rev. Gale Tompkins-Bischel served as the CA State Senate Guest Chaplain on April 16, 2015. Here is her opening prayer for that day's legislative session:

Gracious Holy One, Creator of all that is and will ever be, this is the day that You have made, and we rejoice in it; another opportunity to be, right now, the best that we can be, to speak the kindest, wisest words that we can speak, to listen thoughtfully to one another with ears that can hear beyond syllables and into the heart of each person, and to plan for a future of hope and abundance for this state, her people, her land, and her creatures. God, help Your humble servants to avoid thinking that we already know it all, that only if everyone could bend to our will we could be satisfied. Make us able to admit that we might be wrong sometimes, that our eyes might need to be opened to see a perspective that we rejected even yesterday. May we never make an idea or an opinion into a golden calf, defending it at the expense of the dignity, worth, or well-being of our fellows or constituents. Help us remember, like the wise messengers have always said, that nothing can be added to a cup that is already full, and empty us of the part of ourselves that would block open minds, gentle spirits, and eager partnerships.

God, like you did when you created this universe, help us create symphonies of beauty and perfection out of what looks at first glance to be chaos. Help us make a difference today for many or even for just one person, whether it be through a new law or a simple smile or hello. Guide us, God, and grant abundant courage, wisdom and blessings on the ones who serve and the ones who are served.

We ask all of this not because of any partisan agenda, but because of love and justice, the fuels that propel every true and honest effort for peace, harmony, and reconciliation in Your precious world. We lift these prayers in your many names, and with gratitude for the freedom and joy that are the divine birthright of all humanity.─AMEN.
