Camp Counselors for 2015!

June and July seem far away, but the Outdoor Ministry Committee (OMC) is actively preparing for camps at the Community of the Great Commission and at the South San Joaquin Camp.   OMC and Camp Directors are looking for counselors, nurses, and keynoters for next summer.  We would like to ask members of churches in the CCNC-N Region to consider applying for one of the positions for Junior, Chi Rho or CYF camp, or to perhaps plant a seed of interest and encourage someone else to apply.  The application can be found at www.ccncn.org.  Submitting an application would not be a commitment yet, nor would it be a guarantee for a counseling position, but would help us broaden our knowledge of people who are interested.  Applications can be found here.

Our deadline to receive counselor applications is January 31, 2015. 

Of course, May 2015 will be dedicated as the month for camper registrations with a deadline of May 31.

I would be glad to talk to anyone about these camp opportunities.

With a Grateful Heart:

Sacramento First Christian Church had a big day on November 3. On that day two babies were born into the congregation. Aleta Rose Augustine was born to Garrett and Sara (Bowen) Augustine. Sara is well known in the region for her work with camping ministries, as a counselor and co-director.  Then, Madeline Flora Harbit was born to Ellen Schramm and Daniel Harbit.  Moms and babies are all doing fine

Fall Fest this year was attended by 23 kids from across the region.  We met in one of the most beautiful locations in the bay area, Pacific Grove.  After visiting the Monterey Aquarium Saturday afternoon, we returned to the church and gathered for some good food, fellowship, games and worship.  We concluded the event Sunday morning by worshipping with the congregation of Pacific Grove.  It was a awesome 24 hour gathering. 
Thanks goes to the church and its congregation, Dan Paul and Lataunya for giving the kids somethings to think about.  Saving the World, one superhero at a time.

With a Prayerful Heart:   
Hold in prayer the family and friends of Wayne Bennett. Services for Wayne Bennett will be on December 4, 2:00 pm at United Congregational Christian Church in Lodi. The address is 701 South Hutchins Street. 

We've received word that Gladys Bever recently passed away at 104 years of age.  Gladys was active in CWF and served on the regional Cabinet.  Her husband, Cecil, was the  minister at Wheatland First Christian Church and Del Paso Blvd Christian Church. After Cecil passed away, Gladys was  active at Arden Christian Church,  and was a charter member of Sierra Christian Church in Loomis.  She moved to Kansas to be closer to her sons, who are both ministers.  She was a friend and mentor to many in this region and loved by all. -- Chuck Blaisdale, Faye Orton Snyder

Disciples Volunteering supports and enhances servant missions and ministries of congregations. To this end, Disciples Volunteering continues to Call, Connect, Equip, and Send Servants and the Church for Service with the Community. By focusing its ministry on supporting local mission interests, developing servant leaders, and sending teams in mission, Disciples Volunteering is promoting a fundamental shift toward service and missions that are more sustainable, flexible, effective, and, ultimately, a better witness to our faith in action. Disciples serving community become better neighbors as we Get Dirty for Jesus.

Enrollment Sites Sought.

The California Council of Churches, through its new Navigator grant with Covered CA is seeking congregations of all faiths to serve as enrollment sites for the next open and special enrollment periods to sign people up for health insurance from November 2014 to June 2015.  Faith communities should recruit volunteers who will be trained, certified, fingerprinted and background checked, have accessible meeting spaces and parking, have password protected computer and internet access and be willing to accommodate education and enrollment store fronts during weeknights and on the weekends.  Faith communities can, at their discretion, invite local providers to do health screenings and have a community health fair.

DLP Opportunities

The Disciples Leadership Program (DLP) at Eureka College is awarded to freshmen based on leadership, service and academic excellence, and the commitment to explore during college a life of faith-based servant leadership. Seminary-bound students interested in our pre-ministry track are encouraged to apply, but all qualified DOC students of any major and vocational aspiration with exceptional leadership and service will be equally considered.   DLP Fellows receive full tuition plus two on-site mentorships exploring service anywhere in the world, a $6,000 combined stipend for travel-related expenses. The DLP is a top-tier scholarship at the college, and is awarded to only two candidates per year with the academic preparation to maintain a 3.0 or better in college.
