Disciples History, Polity, Theology, and Ethos. We are excited to invite members of our Region to register for a new course,Disciples History, Polity, Theology, and Ethos. It is an in-person, seminary-level course being offered through the CCNC-N Region in order to keep costs low and to make it more accessible to more people. Please consider joining us!
Meeting on 7 Saturdays (Sept. 6, Sept. 20, Oct. 11, Oct. 18, Nov. 1, Nov. 8, and Nov. 15) from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Pacific School of Religion, we will survey the history, polity, theological beliefs, and ethos of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), from its historical beginnings to its contemporary manifestations. Through dynamic presentations and guest speakers focusing on the ongoing relationship between church and culture, we will examine how the church continues to develop and respond to social, ethical, and theological needs today. The course intentionally ends before Thanksgiving and Advent, and it is important that participants commit to attending every session. The cost is only $300, which is incredibly low considering the amazing content and quality being offered.

XPLOR - Rolling out a new program with NBA as a partner
We need your ideas! The National Benevolent Association of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), out of St. Louis is rolling out a new program in several regions of the church across the country - it is called XPLOR. There is probably a poster about this on the bulletin board at your church. NBA, in partnership with Christian Church Homes, Oakland Peace Center, CCNC-N and several local Disciples congregations, is exploring the feasibility of starting this program in the bay area in the fall of 2015 or 2016. This program recruits young adults, ages 21-30, to give 10 months of service to their community/church/and social service programs under the practical and spiritual guidance of supportive members of the Disciples church. (You might think of it as the Peace Corp program right in our own backyard)
NBA will assist in recruiting the participants, perhaps 4-6 individuals, and in securing service sites for them to work in. One challenge in implementing this program is finding a house where 4-6 young adults can live for 10 months. We are looking for ideas or suggestions as to how to solve this problem. Do you know of a house, or some kind of a housing solution, that could be used for 10 months by 4-6 highly dedicated and responsible young adults? We do not yet know the start date of this program, but we are starting to explore (free or very inexpensive) housing solutions for a future XPLOR program. If you have any thoughts please share them with Don Stump, regional moderator, at DStump@cchnc.org
