Regional Voices - January 17, 2014

REFLECTIONS

Dear CCNC-N Community,

It's been a year of transitions. Life has changed again and again.  Graduations and ordinations took place.  Deaths occurred and beloved people's lives were celebrated as we released them into God's care and began the journey without them. Pastors and people said good-bye.  On the Regional staff, Sue Tarleton completed her ministry as Annual Gathering Coordinator in the Fall (we will celebrate her ministry among us at the 2014 Annual Gathering).  We thanked Bill Garrett, Sandhya Jha, Molly and Michael Carlson for their ministry in the Region and blessed them on their way at the Advent Open House.  It's been a year of transition.

And there is more transition ahead in 2014!

When Bill and I were church planters for a new church in Arizona, the congregation worked with the architects to create a worship space that could be flexible and have multiple foci. It meant we could rearrange the space often, sometimes weekly. Such shifting of chairs and space became a symbol for a congregational core value of embracing change. It diverted the classic, "we've never done it that way into a "yes, let's." Our fear of transitions became overshadowed by delight of what God might do with us next. We didn't master all our fears perfectly, yet such symbolic altering prepared us that change was coming, and we could find the courage to overcome the accompanying anxiety.

Dear Friends, as we move day by day into this New Year, may Holy Love cast out fear and transform our uncertainty into anticipation of what might be.

In grateful partnership,

Mary

UPCOMING REGIONAL EVENTS

Regional Office Transition - January 28-February 1

Over the last five months, we've been looking into the possibility of moving the Regional Office. With most of the staff being deployed and coming to the Regional office occasionally, we need less space. If you have stopped by 9260 Alcosta Blvd, C-18, you may have noticed clutter and the lack of hospitable entry and gathering space. You may have had the experience of walking through the work space to get to the conference/storage space or noted that the one way in and out puts staff at risk in the case of a fire. All reasons to consider a move.

We utilized some of the work done by a previous committee about 8 or so years ago as we explored a church possibility and looked at space within our present office building. In August, a space that was explored by Ben and team, but rented before the Region could sign a lease, came open. Much work has been done to negotiate the change, find a contractor, get permits and begin reconfiguring the space to meet our needs. We will have a reception area, a kitchen, a bathroom, three offices, a conference room and a work/storage room. We have signed a lease that saves approximately $700 a month/$8,000 a year in rent. Permits took a while, so we were hesitant to share the news with the larger CCNC-N community because we were waiting to be certain. The contractor began work last week. He will finish in time for us to move at the end of the month.

Now we can share our news and ask for your aid and assistance.

  • The office will be focused on moving on the following days, January 28-January 31. Official Moving Day: February 1, 8 AM. We will move across the hall to suite C-22. We need hands and bodies, hand trucks and smiling faces to help us. Please e-mail or call (925-556-9900) the Regional office to sign-up to help.
  • Moving Preparation Assistance is needed earlier in the week on January 29-31 to help sort, box and begin moving items. PLEASE note: the office will be open, but staff will be working to prepare for the move and will not be as readily available as usual.
  • Wish list: Some new office furniture is needed to fit into the new space.  If you wish to be a part of helping with the wish list, contributions can be earmarked for office project:
    • Staff office desk
    • File cabinets for staff office
    • Bookkeeper/volunteer desk
    • File cabinets for bookkeeper/volunteer office
    • Reception area desk
    • Cabinets for the conference room
    • Cabinets for the work room
Thanks so much!

REGIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL APPLICATION TIME

If you are in grades 9 through 11, you are eligible to be on the Regional Youth Council of CCNC-N. Of course there are a few more guidelines, and you can read about these on the website (see below).

Being a member of the RYC offers an opportunity: 1) to grow in leadership skills, 2) to explore what it means to be a servant leader, 3) to help plan youth events and camps, and 4) much more. It's a time of growing deep in prayer while opening wide to create community grounded in Christ.

Also, the RYC is looking for Adult leaders to help as well. You must be at least 23 years of age and willing to help youth learn to lead and to grow in their faith commitment.

Applications are due March 21, 2014, including letters of recommendations. Please follow the links below for Guidelines and Application.
