Lake Needwood Boats Closed this Weekend Due to Heavy Rains    

The Lake Needwood Boat House will be closed effective today (May 16th) and through this weekend (May 17 and 18) due to flooding. Please call the boathouse at 301-563-7540 for further updates.

Twinbrook Walking Tour - Saturday, May 17  

Take a walking tour on Saturday May 17 of the Twinbrook Sector Plan area and learn about "placemaking in progress." Experts from the Coalition for Smarter Growth, the M-NCPPC, the City of Rockville, JBG and WMATA will share the background on the mixed use development of Twinbrook Station among other sites. Meet at the west side of the Twinbrook Metro station on Chapman Avenue where it intersects with Halpine Road at 10:00 a.m. for the 0.7 miles tour. The tour concludes at 12:00 p.m.

Celebrate a Milestone on the Road to Rehabilitation of the Historic Warner Mansion!

Join Montgomery Parks and the Kensington Historical Society to celebrate a milestone in rehabilitating the historic Brainard Warner Mansion located in Kensington Circle Park.

Attend Next Bethesda Downtown Plan Workshop - Saturday, May 17

Planners to present a preliminary framework concept for the Bethesda Downtown Plan and get ideas on character of Downtown neighborhoods

 

The Montgomery County Planning Department will be hosting a second workshop for the Bethesda Downtown Plan on Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School (4301 East-West Hwy., Bethesda, MD). RSVP's are encouraged but not required. Learn more.

Montgomery Parks Seeks Proposals for Park Activity Buildings

A Request for Proposals has been issued for seven Park Activity Buildings located in Colesville Local Park, Ken-Gar Palisades Local Park, Maplewood-Alta Vista Local Park, Nolte Local Park, North Chevy Chase Local Park, Owens Local Park, and Stoneybrook Local Park.Proposals are due on June 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. For more information and to review the RFP, visit:

Montgomery Parks is looking for both special event and long-term volunteers. Go to www.ParksVolunteers.org, click on Search and Apply for Volunteer Opportunities, then click on the category that interests you. Here are some examples of the opportunities we have open: 
  • NNI Removal Events, Various locations and dates, help us rid the park trees of vines and other Non-Native Invasives that are taking over!
  • Tree Stewards, Various parks - commit to at least one year of quarterly park visits.  Help us keep an eye on our most valuable resource in parks, our trees! 
  • Nature and Summer Camp Counselor Opportunities, Thinking about summer?  Here are some volunteer opportunities to help with that!
  • Hot Opportunities - these are the opportunities that we really need volunteers to fill soon! Check them out!
  • Trail Rangers and Trail Workdays - Train as a ranger, and go out on your own schedule, or sign up for one of our workdays!

We rely on homeowners and civic organizations to help spread the word about development applications and planning initiatives.
