Montgomery County Planning Department Honored for Historic Preservation Efforts   

The Montgomery County Planning Department will be recognized at the annual Montgomery Preservation Inc. Historic Preservation Awards program on March 28. Historic Planner Clare Lise Kelly is set to receive the Montgomery Prize, the highest honor awarded by Montgomery Preservation. Montgomery Preservation Inc. will also recognize the Montgomery Modern Initiative, a documentation and educational program launched by Kelly and the Historic Preservation Office. The reception will be held at the National Park Seminary Ballroom (9610 Dewitt Dr., Silver Spring, MD) starting at 6 p.m. with the awards portion of the evening starting at 7 p.m. Learn more.

Aspen Hill Community Meeting     

Attend the Second Community Meeting for the Aspen Hill Minor Master Plan Amendment on Tuesday, April 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Aspen Hill Library (4407 Aspen Hill Road, Rockville, MD). Learn more about this plan and how you can get involved.

Bethesda Design and Planning Workshop Recap     

Approximately 130 people attended the March 1 Bethesda Downtown Plan Design and Planning Workshop at B-CC High School. Attendees had the opportunity to identify areas in Downtown Bethesda where they would like to see more green space and better pedestrian access as well as give their thoughts on the future of how the downtown area could change or stay the same. Check out the Bethesda Workshop recap video.

 

 

Attend the Third and Final Winter Speakers Series

The Montgomery County Planning Department is hosting a Winter Speakers series with a special emphasis on housing. The next event on Thursday, April 10 at 6 p.m. will feature speakers John Welsh, VP Multifamily Group, AHC Inc. and David Cristeal, Housing Director, Arlington County. White Flint Plan   

Attend a meeting to receive an overview on the White Flint Plan by lead planner, Nkosi Yearwood at Ingleside at King Farm in Rockville, MD. The event is happening Wednesday, April 9 at 3:30 p.m. Learn more about the White Flint Sector Plan

Volunteer Opportunities

 

Montgomery Parks is looking for both special event and long-term volunteers. Go to www.ParksVolunteers.org, click on Search and Apply for Volunteer Opportunities, then click on the category that interests you. Here are some examples of the opportunities we have open: 
  • NNI Removal Events, Various locations and dates, help us rid the park trees of vines and other Non-Native Invasives that are taking over!
  • Tree Stewards, Various parks - commit to at least one year of quarterly park visits.  Help us keep an eye on our most valuable resource in parks, our trees! 
  • Earth Month! Various parks. April is Earth Month, and we are beginning to schedule several large park cleanups. 
  • Nature and Summer Camp Counselor Opportunities, Feeling cabin fever?  Thinking about summer?  Here are some volunteer opportunities to help with that!

Community Organization Lists   

Our online tool will make HOA organization email addresses available to web users seeking to notify residents about pending development or other issues. We rely on homeowners and civic organizations to help spread the word about development applications and planning initiatives. Homeowner's association leaders may want to update your organizational contact information to a generic '[email protected]' and update your contact information
