Clean Team Combats Winter Weather |
During record breaking cold yesterday and today, the Lincoln Square BID's 14 member Clean Team continued to brave the elements and clean up from Winter Storm Hercules. The team salted and cleared snow from crosswalks, pedestrian crossings in the Broadway malls, bus stops, catch basins, fire hydrants, and walkways around Richard Tucker Park and Dante Park. As always, the Clean Team ensured the sidewalks and curbs were litter free and they cleared garbage throughout the district.

The 23rd annual New York Jewish Film Festival, presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Jewish Museum, begins today and continues through Thursday, January 23rd at the Walter Reade Theater and Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center.
The festival has become a preeminent showcase for world cinema exploring the Jewish experience, and this year features premieres of films from around the globe as well as a number of exciting special programs. Highlights include "Looking at Saul Bass" in which the festival pays homage to graphic designer and Academy Award winning filmmaker Saul Bass, who designed title sequences and film posters for directors like Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger and Martin Scorsese during his distinguished 40-year career.

Bobby McFerrin: "spirityouall" at Jazz at Lincoln Center |
Bobby McFerrin brings it on home, returning to Jazz at Lincoln Center with his spirityouall band. With this project, McFerrin embraces his roots in rock, folk, funk, and bluegrass, reimagining Americana. Featuring beloved traditional songs such as "He's Got the Whole World In His Hands" and "Every Time I Feel The Spirit" alongside original tunes, Bobby shares his personal search for grace, wisdom and freedom.

Folk Couture: Fashion and Folk Art |
"Folk Couture", an exhibition opening at the American Folk Art Museum on Tuesday, January 21st and running through mid-April, will explore the ways in which fashion engages with art.
The exhibition will feature the work of thirteen established and emerging designers who will create an original ensemble based on a selection of paintings, sculptures, photographs, quilts, and furniture chosen from the museum's outstanding collection. The designers have selected approximately thirty artworks, drawn from every time period and in every medium considered by the museum. The original couture and the works of art from the museum's collection will be exhibited together in juxtapositions that promise to be both stunning and provocative.

One of the Lincoln Square BID's most popular promotions, Fashion Plate Prix Fixe, will return on Thursday, February 6th and continue through Thursday, February 13th. As Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week lights up its runways at Lincoln Center, Lincoln Square's finest restaurants will be offering dining deals that are open to everyone.
During Fashion Plate Prix Fixe dozens of this neighborhood's world class establishments offer special menus and give the public an affordable and exciting opportunity to rub shoulders with stylish sophisticates. Since 1999, the New York Guitar Festival has explored virtually every aspect of the guitar's musical personality, presenting many of the world's most distinctive and influential guitarists at world renowned venues.
This year the Festival, which runs from Friday, January 10th through Thursday, January 30th, is presenting two series at the Kaufman Music Center in Lincoln Square. The first series, Guitar Marathon: Las Americas, taking place on Monday, January 20th, is FREE for the first time in the Festival's history, and features a six-hour marathon on MLK Day that celebrates the classical guitar in North and South America, contrasting rich traditions with bold experimentation. The second series, Silent Films/Live Guitars, taking place on January 21st, 23rd and 28th, will feature groundbreaking guitarists as they present world-premiere original scores for silent masterpieces of world cinema.
