Dante's Renaissance

Construction Update

Last month we reported that the reconstruction of Dante Park was underway. Now we are thrilled to report that the interior has been planted and some rhododendrons are starting to bloom. The NYC Department of Parks and Recreation is installing new pavers, has reset the granite in the raised seating area and will install new benches. Watch this work in progress, which was made possible with funds allocated by Council Member Gale Brewer and the New York City Council.

After 15 years of advocacy by the Lincoln Square BID, Dante is being transformed. Visit the Lincoln Square BID's facebook page to take a look at the progress so far. Don't forget to 'like' what you see.

Newhouse Theater, New York City Ballet's Balanchine & Robbins: Masters at Work is at the David Koch Theater and The Juilliard Jazz Orchestra will be performing The Music of Duke Ellington at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola. For the mother with an interest in politics, seeing Holland Taylor in Ann at the Vivian Beaumont Theater would be perfect. You can also take in a film - The Girls in the Band is showing at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, or for a high-octane experience at the movies Iron Man 3 is showing at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square.

Happy Mother's Day!

Chick Corea Festival at Jazz at Lincoln Center

Wednesday, May 15 through Sunday, May 19

Now in his seventies, the pianist-composer Chick Corea will be celebrated during Jazz at Lincoln Center's 25th Anniversary Season with a multi-venue festival.

At the Rose Theater, jazz fusion pioneer Chick Corea will reconnect with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in a reprise of their highly acclaimed collaboration in 2011. The ensemble will be performing original arrangements of Corea's masterful songbook. This interplay showcases Corea's singular abilities as a musical storyteller, with a vocabulary that contains a global range of references: Bach and bebop, Bartok and the blues, Mozart and montunos, Ravel and rumba, Stravinsky and samba, all tempered with the language of swing and the "Spanish Tinge".

The Allen Room will feature the Friends of Chick Corea: Musicians of the Future where several units hand-picked by Corea will interpret some of his favorite compositions. And Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola will see a cadre of musicians: Edsel Gomez, Elio Villafranca, Marcus Roberts, Alfredo Rodriguez, Henry Cole and many others will dip into Corea's extensive song book and style throughout the festival.
