 Lights On Afterschool
The 15th annual Lights On Afterschool will be October 23, 2014.
Launched in October 2000, Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities. The effort has become a hallmark of the afterschool movement and generates media coverage across the country each year.

Lights On Afterschool events, like afterschool programs, come in all shapes and sizes, from stadium rallies and town parades to open houses and program tours. To find everything you need to plan the perfect event, go to http://www.afterschoolalliance.org/loa.cfm

STEM

Take the Dow Teacher Challenge!

Deadline May 16, 2014

The Center for Science of Teaching and Learning (CSTL) and Dow have come together to support STEM education in our schools. STEM education is absolutely vital for our children and our future. We need to encourage children to pursue science, technology, engineering and math related fields. Our real challenge lies in how to achieve our goal of improving STEM education.

We would like to introduce the STEM THE GAP Teacher Challenge. Teachers of all fields are invited to submit their ideas for increasing STEM education in the classroom. The top 25 entries will earn a $1,000 grant to be used in the classroom!

Visit www.dow.com/education to submit an entry. The deadline for all submissions is May 16, 2014.

Together we can build a STEM-strong future!

Supported by JCPenney, IZOD and LA Models, the Afterschool Awards help kids turn their educational goals into a reality. Ask your students to enter online at www.afterschoolawards.com now. A judging panel will choose twelve semifinalists, three in each category, for public voting July 4 - August 10, 2014. The four winners will be announced during a live web broadcast at the Afterschool Awards website on August 15, 2014. Call Congress to support Afterschool for America's Children Act

By Sarah Simpson~ Afterschool Alliance

On May 22, we're teaming up with the National Network of Statewide Afterschool Networks to bring afterschool leaders from around the country to Washington, D.C., to meet face to face with Members of Congress and urge them to co-sponsor the Afterschool for America's Children Act. We need your help to amplify their voices. You're the local expert on afterschool. Members of Congress need to hear from constituents like you who care about making afterschool for all a reality. Help us make 535 calls to Congress-that's one for every senator and representative on Capitol Hill.

Click here to call your Members of Congress. We have everything you'll need to make the call, including a sample script!
