From the studio of Sharon Crute...
April marks the end of semi-hibernation in the studio and begins preparation for show season. I thought you might like to see a few studio paintings I've recently produced.  Ever since I immersed myself in plein air painting last year, I'm enjoying creating these oils more than ever!
Assistant Starters, 24"x36", oil on canvas

In this oil I wanted to emphasize the assistant starters. Love them or hate them, they've both saved lives and hampered many a start. Either way you feel, it's a dangerous job. I simplified the background clutter of all those bars on the stalls to shift focus to the explosive split second of the start. Anyone hear bells?

Warm Mist, 11"x14", oil on canvas

I'm so enamored by the early mornings at the Oklahoma Training Track at Saratoga Race Course. The cool night air is rapidly warmed by the rising sun and often produces ground fog that's colored by the prevailing light. The meandering mists are quite ephemeral and lovely.

Deep Shade, 11"x14", oil on canvas.

This scene shows the horses coming and going on the horse path. The perspective is from the path looking out toward the barn area (yes, I'm standing in the middle of the path shooting pics). I like the liveliness of the horse on the right being led by the pony and the contrast of light and shade.
Here's a small mural printed on aluminum. It's taken from my multi-canvas piece: Mile and a Sixteenth (and change).  Click here to see the original on my website.

Each aluminum panel is 4"x4". Eighteen in all comprise the mural which depicts an entire horse race from going into the gate to pulling up after the finish line. Shown here, it is sized approximately 28"x28", but you can play with them to form any configuration. The mounting system creates a one inch profile away from the wall. Great for those of you who still want to collect art but are running out of space. It's beautifully glossy and vibrant.

Don't forget that we can customize any of the products we carry. Send us a good image and we can put them on these mugs and coasters:

We're still in the beginning stages of this project and a catalog is in the works. If you're interested in the unusual mural or anything else, contact us directly at [email protected] or give the master printer a call (my husband Michael) at 352-266-2449.
We're all so busy and inundated with email, both solicited and not. Therefore, I'd like to especially thank you for taking the time to continue to read this newsletter and follow my art.
A warm springtime thank you,
Sharon
