From the President:

From winter concerts, to theatrical performances, football playoffs and more, Katy ISD is busy with a flurry of extracurricular activities. As we enter this season when we share gifts with those who mean so much to us, I am reminded of one of the gifts we here in Katy ISD are blessed to have - outstanding extracurricular programs.

We are gifted with students who possess a natural sense of curiosity that fuels their dedication to learn and grow. The fact that so many of our students are excelling in extracurricular activities and excelling academically at the same time is truly amazing. We are also gifted with outstanding parents, teachers and administrators who give their time and their talents to see that our students are given every opportunity to succeed.

So, before you pack-up for the holidays and on behalf of the Katy ISD Board of Trustees, I want to simply say 'thank you' to all of you, who together, make Katy ISD a wonderful community in which to live and learn.

Happy Holidays,

Rebecca Fox, President
Katy ISD Board of Trustees

Board Notes:

Attendance Boundary Modification
The Board  approved the recommended Attendance Boundary Modification for Katy ISD's High School No. 7 that is slated to open in fall 2013. The modifications provide relief for Seven Lakes High School, moving several hundred ninth and tenth grade students to the new school. High School No. 7 will be led by Principal Mark Grisdale, former principal of Morton Ranch HS.

2013-14 Instructional Calendar
The Board approved the 2013-14 Instructional Calendar.  Under the approved calendar, elementary campuses will keep the four grading periods first introduced during the 2012-13 academic year.  Secondary campuses remain on the current six grading period structure. The new structure will not impact the academic calendar as both elementary and secondary schools will have the same start date, end date, early release days and holidays.

Elementary Design Firm

The Board approved a recommendation by Superintendent Alton Frailey to retain the services of SBWV Architects for the design of proposed Elementary Schools No. 36 and No. 37. Funding for the design and construction of the two new elementary schools is available through 2010 Bond project savings.

Morton Ranch High School Principal
The Board approved Lee Crews, current principal of Willowridge High School in Fort Bend ISD, as the new principal of Morton Ranch High School. This appointment comes after Morton Ranch HS Principal Mark Grisdale was appointed to serve as the new principal of High School No. 7.
