President's Message
FALL GOLF IS HERE
|
Fall is a wonderful time to be on the golf course. The cool crisp mornings, brightly colored trees, acorns a plenty all add to a splendid palette of natural beauty for all of us to enjoy.
Our WOGA Senior Championship will bring the 2014 WOGA season to a close on October 14-15 at the River Oaks GC in Edmond. There are still a few spots remaining, so please enter by October 7th and join the fun for the Grand Finale.
A special thank you to Vicki Eckerd and the Rose Creek WGA of Edmond for raising funds and contributing $500 to the WOGA Scholarship and Grants Program. WOGA is very appreciative when local WGA's designate the WOGA Scholarship and Grants Program as their charity of choice. The WOGA Scholarship program awards scholarships to Senior Girls in Oklahoma High Schools who have financial need, proven academic success and show an interest in golf. The WOGA Grants Program awards Grants to under-funded High School Girl's Golf Teams to help grow the game for women and girls in Oklahoma.
WOGA is currently accepting grant applications from High School Girls Golf Programs. The application deadline is October 15th. The Grant Application can be found HERE.
Congratulations to Kathy West who qualified for the US Senior Women's Amateur Championship held at the Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, New Jersey September 13-18 . Unfortunately, Kathy has been struggling with a back injury and had to withdraw before the second round of qualifying.

Recently, two very active WOGA members have suffered serious medical illnesses. Gerda Campbell of Ft. Sill is receiving treatment at the Barrow Brain Institue in Phoenix. If you would like to send a card or note of encouragement to Gerda, please do so at c/o Chris Campbell 7103 N. 87th Drive Glendale, AZ 85303. Also, Nora Birdshead was taken to the hospital from a golf event recently while playing in the Trails Invitational. Her address is 704 W. Kentucky Anadarko, OK 73005. Please keep both of these ladies in your thoughts and prayers. I know both consider the WOGA Community as extended family.

The 2015 WOGA schedule is almost complete and will be announced soon. Please mark your calendar now for the exciting Centennial Celebration to be held July 26, 2015 at the Oklahoma City Golf & CC. You do not want to miss this once in a life time celebration and we hope you will bring all of your golfing friends and spouses too. It has been a wonderful experience going through and researching the history of our special organization. I am looking forward to traveling to the USGA in Far Hills, New Jersey in a few days to work on some exciting projects for the Celebration.
Thank you for supporting the Women's Oklahoma Golf Association on and off the course. Your membership, participation, service and financial support are very much appreciated.
