Track Crime Online

RAIDS Online helps make it much easier for you to keep track of crime anywhere in the city and communicate with officers.

Get updates for your neighborhood within a certain radius of your address, get email alerts, as well as report crimes or issues in your area and improve communication between the public and the department. You can also analyze the data you select via a map, graphs and analytics, as well as a data grid and data layers.

If you have not already done so, you might consider joining the neighborhood social network called NextDoor. It is a great way to connect with your neighbors to meet, talk online, and share information that can make your neighborhood better and safer.

Many people are using Nextdoor to spread word about suspicious activity or break-ins, organize a neighborhood watch group, find a trustworthy babysitter or handyman, requesting help in looking for missing pets, and find nearby neighbors!

You can join from your laptop or download the app and stay connected with neighbors through your phone or iPad.

Arrest Made in Hanover Avenue Assaults

Richmond Police detectives have arrested a man for the assaults and robbery Monday night on Hanover Avenue. At approximately 4:30 p.m. yesterday, detectives from Third Precinct's Focus Mission Team, with the assistance of Chesterfield Police, arrested the suspect without incident in Chesterfield County.

Allen A. Kelly, 46, of the 5800 block of Westover Village Drive, has been charged with robbery and malicious wounding.

At approximately 10:50 p.m. on Monday, officers were called to the 3100 block of Hanover Avenue for a report of an assault. A man and a woman were walking on Hanover Avenue when they were assaulted with a blunt object and robbed.

"This is a great example of good police work and follow-up," said Area 2 Major Michael Shamus. "We'd like to thank our media partners and the public for their help in identifying the suspect. We also would like to recognize the excellent coordination with local law enforcement agencies which allowed us to quickly arrest the suspect in this violent robbery."

Public Safety Update

We have received several emails over the last few weeks about burglaries and thefts in the District, particularly west of I-195.

Sheds have been broken into in or near the Glen Burnie and Willow Lawn neighborhoods in mid-September, and reports of several residential break-ins were also reported in the 4700 and 4800 blocks of Grace, Franklin, and Park. Two suspects have been arrested in those crimes.

There have also been some crimes reported on Maple Avenue, and a few in Windsor Farms. I have met with Third

Precinct Commander Williams and Sector Lieutenant Stith and their team would like to reassure everyone that officers have saturated the area and shall continue to give the area attention to curb the day time property crimes. Citizens should see an active increase in patrols. The suspect in the Hanover Avenue assault this week was apprehended yesterday (see sidebar).

It is vital we as neighbors help the Police by reporting

anything suspicious: an idling car, someone loitering, out of state tags driving slowly through a neighborhood, someone knocking on a door at length to see if anyone is at home.

Police use the data they receive to help assemble the puzzle that can often lead to suspects and arrests, and anything we can report to them can help crack the case.

New information has been received and we are following up on reports of a 21 to 23 year old while male, tall, wearing a black baseball cap, with tattooed arms (sleeve) who was walking back and forth in front of the residence in the 600 block of Maple at the time of the break in that occurred October 10, 2014.  The suspect was confronted by a citizen and walked swiftly from Maple to Guthrie.

The Department is always very appreciative of citizens taking an active role in the community to report suspicious individuals and activity.  But, please do not engage the individual(s) involved in the suspicious activity.

RAIDS ONLINE

Using the new online RAIDS tracking system (see sidebar for more), you can see this graph below shows between August 1 - October 5, most of the crimes committed in our District occurred around midnight on weekends, between 7:30 and 9:30am on Thursday and Friday, and around lunch time mid-week, and some in the late afternoon/early evening hours toward the end of the week.

This chart above shows that most of the thefts and burglaries have been occurring on Thursday and Friday.

Map of Various Crimes
