ALUMNAE NEWS  -  OCTOBER 2015
Carondelet High School mass of the holy spirit
Celebrating our first Mass of the year on Aug. 26.
Become an e-Mentor through The Carondelet Connection
Attorneys who practice martial arts, RNs who do Tahitian dancing, TV producers, police officers, environmental scientists, foreign service reps... Wow! We certainly have some accomplished alumnae!

Thank you so much to those of you who have taken the time to sign up for The Carondelet Connection, our new initiative to connect alumnae to current students for e-mentoring opportunities.  We are incredibly grateful to have an alum base that is so willing to share their experiences and advice.  As our students contemplate their future and begin to make decisions about colleges, activities and potential careers, we know that having the ability to contact you will be invaluable.

If you haven't signed up yet, there is still time to get involved! Please SIGN UP HERE to be included in this newly created private database that lives in the Center for Student Success (formerly the College and Career Center).

In February the freshman class will take a "do what you are" assessment and will be given career possibilities that match their personality type and interests. The students will then be asked to use The Carondelet Connection database to find and connect with alumnae to who have studied or worked in the student's field of interest. We can't wait to hear about all the wonderful connections made!

Join Us for the Next Carondelet Alumnae Association Meeting!

Join us tomorrow evening, Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the faculty room for the next Carondelet Alumnae Association meeting. We will have dinner followed by a discussion of upcoming school and alumnae events.  We will do a bit of planning for the Visions of Christmas Open House, taking place on Dec. 1, and discuss the mission of the Alumnae Association. Please RSVP to Lindy Sullivan'02 at  [email protected].
Alumna of the Month: Pamela Erickson '93

This fall I accepted a teaching position at Carondelet in the English Department. One of my primary goals in returning to Carondelet is to help foster stronger relationships between the alumnae community and our current students.

I specifically would like to see more opportunities for our amazing alumnae to share their educational, career and life experiences with current students who would greatly benefit from their guidance and mentoring. In this spirit, Carondelet will be hosting a Peace Corps Day in March, inviting Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) to speak with students about their volunteer experiences abroad.  If you are an RPCV and would like to participate in this event, please contact: [email protected]

Also, in the coming months, Carondelet will launch an alumnae speaker series, inviting alumnae from an array of professional backgrounds to speak with students about their educational and career choices, offering insights and advice to those interested in pursuing a similar path.

These are just two of the initiatives Carondelet will launch in the coming months that strengthen ties between Carondelet alumnae and current students. If you have other ideas about how Carondelet can build relationships between the alumnae and current student community, please reach out and share your ideas. We would love to hear from you.  To read more, follow this link -- Pamela Erickson '93
Athletics Department Reconnects with Alumnae Athletes

In case you missed it, Caitlin Lawson '05 is Carondelet's new Director of Athletics and she is excited to reconnect with former Conquistadors and Cougars!
On the heels of our fall alum cross country run, the Athletics Department hosted a special alum evening for former volleyball players on Oct. 22. The evening included a hosted reception, an opportunity to reconnect with former players and coaches, and a spirited volleyball match in which our Varsity team took down Livermore in 5 sets.
Carondelet plans to celebrate alumnae athletes at sport-specific receptions throughout the year. More information about our upcoming alum nights for soccer and basketball will be shared in a future e-newsletter.
In addition, Caitlin is working on compiling a comprehensive list of all Carondelet alumnae who played sports in college.  If you participated in a collegiate sport, please let us know by filling out this form.
Please follow our Carondelet teams on Facebook and Twitter @go_carondelet.
Caitlin can be reached at [email protected].

Ven a Ver Trip Makes Local News Headlines

Carondelet students were recently featured in the news for their "Ven a Ver" (Come to See) trip to Salinas and work at Dorothy's Place, a nonprofit organization serving homeless people and those living in extreme poverty. Catherine Berdiago '16 said, "It (Ven a Ver) makes me want to make a difference in the world.  Not just in my area, but hopefully making a greater change throughout ... and influencing others to make that same change."

Ven a Ver is a four-day, three-night immersion trip available to juniors and seniors. It provides students with an opportunity to walk alongside of the poor, homeless and migrant communities in Salinas. Students cook and serve meals at Dorothy's Place, tutor children, work with migrant farm workers in the fields, and then reflect on these experiences through the lens of faith and justice.
