Virginia Dance Center Newsletter
November  2012

Hopefully everyone survived our recent storm without too much damage and everyone has their power back by the time this newsletter is sent!  We had a fun-filled month of dance classes in October with lots of our dancers wearing their Halloween costumes to classes!  We also got to meet some of our dancers' friends during our Bring a Friend week.  Thank you to everyone who participated!  Somehow October has already turned to November and it's time to start thinking about the holidays!  With Thanksgiving just around the corner and the month of November being a time to give thanks, VDC would like to thank you for choosing us as your family's dance studio.  We know that you have a choice in what dance studio you attend and we thank you for trusting VDC with your child's (or your own!) dance education.

Meet Ms. Katie Padgett
Katie Padgett
"Little Katie with her Big Sister"
Ms. Katie started dancing 28 years ago with Miss Karen at Diana Evans School of Dance in Lexington, KY. Her favorite memory of dancing is "wearing her costume and make-up at recital time just like her big sister."
When Ms. Katie has the time, she enjoys photography and scrapbooking. Of course her favorite thing to do at ANY time is tap!  She also enjoys swedish fish and loves the color green. Did you know Ms. Katie has a favorite number? When you see her, ask her what it is!
This is Ms. Katie's 2nd year teaching at VDC.  This year she is teaching Ballet, Jazz and Tap on Tuesdays and Thursdays and we are excited to have her sharing her talent with our dancers!
Meet Ms. Carma Vance
Carma Vance
Carma is originally from a small town just inside Arkansas, near Memphis, TN (and yes, she loves Elvis Presley!). She moved to Virginia in 2002, just in time for a record winter of snow. Talk about first impressions!
In her spare time, Carma enjoys traveling, shopping, riding a motorcycle with her husband and spending time with her family. Between Carma and her husband, Jim, they have 6 children ranging in age from 10-21 that keep them busy!
A little known fact about Carma is that she danced in high school as a song-leader on the cheer squad. Her most memorable moment was when she choreographed a 3 minute routine and taught it to the squad. Carma says, "I was so proud after I taught the routine and saw my ideas in action. It was a really great feeling!"
This is Carma's 3rd year at VDC. Although she is not in the classroom teaching, she keeps busy at the front desk assisting our dancers, their families and our teachers and helps keep things running smoothly! Next time you are in for class, stop by the front desk and say hello. She is there to answer your questions.

Wacky Hair Week
Students are welcome to wear their hair in the Wackiest Style for classes at VDC starting Monday, November 26th through Saturday, December 1st.
Students should be sure their wacky hair will stay out of their face while they're dancing so that is doesn't distract them or limit their ability to dance.
Wacky Hair can be worn for all classes!
