Woman of the Year!

Personal Note:
Wow it's June and we are mid way through the year already. So far 2013  offered me opportunities to accumulated a lot of travel miles doing a job I love. After working in Melbourne Florida for 2 month the mountains of home are even  more spectacular as I drive around town. My next contract is near my hometown in Adrian Michigan starting June 6th. While I appreciate the travel and work I will continue to miss all of you very much. My plan is to visit Hendersonville every 90 days or so to see my family here and get an ABWA girlfriend fix. In the mean time the newsletters, calls and emails from yawl are a welcome treat.
PS: Best Practices deadline is fast approaching, together we can make it happen.

Sincerely, Pamela Pistor

Dr. Betsy Smith

Her topic will be:

"Power Play for Women, How to Get What You Want, Need and Deserve"

E. L. "Betsy" Smith works with professional and business women who are unafraid to leave their
mark and their legacy. She understands that navigating the business jungle can be hell on a pair of pumps and teaches women when to wear flats and when to wear stilettos.

A certified leadership coach and the owner of E. L. Smith Consulting, Betsy serves on numerous non-profit and professional boards and is a Mentor with the RTP Healthcare Business Women's Association.

Betsy has an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas and Master's Degree and PhD from Texas A&M University where she was recognized as one of Thirty Distinguished Graduates
from the College of Education. She is a graduate of Leadership Pensacola (FL), Leadership
Florida and the Cornell Executive Leadership Institute.

Mentoring is one of Betsy's favorite roles and she has taught untold numbers of women "how
to be one of the boys - without being one of the boys."

Betsy was a 2012 recipient of the Triangle Business Journal's Women in Business Award - Mentor Category.

Betsy co-authored Second Blooming for Women: Growing a Life that Matters After Fifty with Kathleen V. Logan.

Sky-Hy reaches out to bring the best National has to offer to each of our members.

President's Message:

Summer time is here, school will soon be out, high school and college graduations are occurring, and 2013 is half gone!!  Time sure has a way of passing us by and it seems a little faster each year.

Our ABWA year ends July 31.  This is the final date to meet all the qualifications for Best Practices Level III.  We need a few more members to make it.  Please invite everyone you know to attend a meeting and join before the deadline of July 31, 2013.

Officer elections for the upcoming year/term will be held at our June 13 meeting.  Please consider what job you are interested in and volunteer.  The new officer term will begin August 1, 2013.

The Sky-Hy Chapter will turn 43 next month.  We were chartered in 1970 by the Hy-Hopes Chapter; thus making us the second and now the only remaining chapter in Asheville.

As we share the past and build the future, remember   "Together We Can, Together We Will" continue to grow our chapter and excel personally.

ABWA SKY-HY CHAPTER
 MEETING MINUTES

- MAY 9, 2013

Lucretia Piercy called the meeting to order at 6:07 p.m., at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and we recited the
Pledge of Allegiance.  Karen thanked everyone who opened the Sky-Hy Echoes newsletter.  Introductions were made.

Two new members joined tonight; Jennifer Smith, and Jacqui Frederick.  Lucretia installed them as new members.

Sue introduced our program speaker, Andrea Bishop.  She gave a presentation on "Difficult People,
Difficult Situations".  Three places where you might be "stuck" - 1) What happened?  2) Feelings, and 3) Identity.

Dinner was served.

Lucretia called for a vote on the Secretary's report, which was printed in the Sky-Hy Echoes newsletter.
Sue motioned to accept.  Randye seconded.  The motion passed.  Lucretia then called for a motion to
accept the Treasurer's report, previously emailed.  Kimberly motioned to accept, and Sue seconded.  The motion passed.

Lucretia reminded the chapter that the Woman of the Year luncheon will be held on May 18 at Posana's Cafe
in downtown.  Those who attend are expected to pay for their own lunch.  The chapter will pay for Michelle's lunch.

Lucretia updated the chapter on our very successful fundraiser "Champagne & Chocolate Table Top
Stroll".  We will definitely do this fundraiser again next year.  Margie announced that she was donating a
percentage of her sales from her Pampered Chef booth, which came to $36.38.  Lucretia also announced
that we had a winner for the most tickets sold - the winner was Randye U.

Lucretia mentioned that National's WIN website has posted new brochures, which makes it possible for you to create your own online.

New officer elections are coming up in June and Karen and Michelle will be contacting members looking
for volunteers for both the executive board and committee chairs.  The new term will begin in August.

Margie will be meeting with her scholarship committee after the meeting to select a new recipient.

Another new member decided to join!!!  Yvonne Cano joined and Lucretia installed her as a new
member!  Yvonne said that "it was the Wand that was the clincher for her join".

Secret pal gifts were given, and door prizes were drawn.  Lucretia told the chapter that Deborah
Pettersson's daughter in law was in her last days, losing her battle with cancer.  And, as of the typing of
the minutes, it was announced that she had passed away.  Please share your love and concern for Deb.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45pm.
Respectfully Submitted:
Kimberly Raphael McAfoos
Recording Secretary
