February Guest Speaker:
CHERI BRITTON
We welcome Cheri Britton~~
M.Ed, speaker, author, coach and trainer who has been helping individuals and organizations effectively BOOM Think for over two decades. BOOM (Break Out of Old Mindsets) Thinking emerged from the experiences, discoveries and epiphanies of Cheri's professional journey and the not-inconsequential presence of her dog, Boomer. In her speaking, writing and, coaching Cheri uses metaphors, anecdotes, and powerful exercises to challenge people to confront the limiting beliefs that trap them at places below their potential. She encourages people to step out of this often comfortable yet destructive place where they are simply surviving and create a new way of being that will have them thriving. The results are literally transformational. As a single mom raising two kids with special needs, Cheri maintains a realistic view of working professionals who juggle careers with family and outside interests. Along the way on her own juggled journey to BOOM Thinking and take a look at her own Big Buts, she earned her Masters degree at UNC-Charlotte and founded Whetstone Consultations, a consulting business that works specifically with health-care agencies. Cheri lives in Asheville, North Carolina with her kids and dogs, Chance and Moxie. The "was-band" got Boomer. cheri@cheribritton.com O: 828-225-8522 C: 828-768-3541

ABWA SKY-HY CHAPTER BOARD MEETING MINUTES - JANUARY 16, 2013
The Board meeting was held at Michelle Marshall's residence, and started at 6:00 p.m.
Attending: Lucretia Piercy, Randye Unsell, Kimberly McAfoos, Michelle Marshall, and Priscilla Lloyd.
Lucretia brought the meeting to and informed the board that the only member who qualified for the Top 10 nomination was Pam Pistor. Lucretia made a motion to nominate Pam for the award; Randye seconded, and the motion passed by unanimous vote.
Discussion continued with the Woman of the Year being selected in February and crowned in March. The board voted to change the requirements back the chapter's past requirements - bypassing National's stringent guidelines. Applications are now available and should have been emailed to all members by the end of January.
The board discussed the results from the surveys passed out at the January meeting. At Carla Parvin's prompting, the chapter will continue to pass out surveys at each meeting in order to attempt to meet the needs and desires of our chapter.
We then discussed our National organization's requirement that we change our Facebook page to be named Sky-Hy Chapter instead of singularly "ABWA".
The next topic to be discussed was whether to change our meetings nights back to the FIRST Thursday of the month instead of the second Thursday. It was decided to ask this question first in our "monthly surveys and then at a vote of the membership at a later date.
We then discussed our upcoming April fundraiser - "Champagne and Chocolate". Lucretia has sent out 20 sponsorship requests, and a forthcoming email will request that all members do the same.
Sam's Club has agreed to be a sponsor and has asked Lucretia (and any other member interested) to join their board meeting on February 4th at 9:30am. It is an honor to have Sam's want to sponsor our chapter and we would love to nurture that relationship for future benefit!
At the last board meeting, we talked about doing a silent auction. Michelle will provide information about this possibility at our next meeting.
We are in need of CHOCOLATE! Deb Pettersson was not present at the meeting and we need to discuss with her the possibility of her providing the chocolate for our event.
Currently we have six (6) tables booked so far!
Our advertising thus far has consisted of 1/8 page ($210) in the Citizen Times Take 5 paper. WNC Woman will trade us for 2 printings.
Our Facebook page is up and running and we encourage all to join and to "Like" our event moving forward!
Randye will be sending out "blasts" from constant contract'.
Kimberly committed to asking for either printing of flyers and tickets (or corporate sponsorship) from BP Solutions. At the time of printing of these minutes, BP has agreed to sponsor the group of $50 White Chocolate. Also, the printing service has been discussed to be provided by Brenda Irvin and/or Kimberly, who have upper level printers. These details will be discussed and confirmed by our next meeting date.
Many sponsorships are needed in order to subsidize our fundraising event! Let's pull out all the stops to bring in as many sponsors as we can!
Margie has reported that she is trying to get scholarship applications from the various schools. Our website should be up and running and ready to receive those who would choose to download an application.
Michelle reported that there is $917.20- in the treasury general fund, and $470.78 in the scholarship fund.
Lucretia asked that each member welcome guests at our meetings. The need for NEW MEMBER PACKETS is great and whether or not we have those available, we need to welcome our guests. New member packets are available on line at the WIN network and can be printed out.
Our target date for Corporate Sponsors to our Champagne and Chocolate event is at our February 6th meeting.. However, any sponsors we may have will ALL be recognized in materials available at the event.
The next board meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 19th , 6:00pm at Michelle Marshall's house.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:00p.m.
