The Child Nutrition Forum is circulating a letter urging President Obama to continue his commitment to child nutrition programs and reducing child hunger and obesity. These programs from the federal government are critical to our work in San Luis Obispo County of fighting hunger and poor nutrition among our most vulnerable and yet potentially most productive members of our community because of the years they have ahead of them.  While government programs are funded with taxpayer dollars, at least some of those dollars are returning to our community as an investment in our well-being and our future.  They also help to share the full burden of these concerns which the local community through donations alone could not bear.  Furthermore, they serve as a stimulant to our local economy.  When we say, "Together we build a healthier community," that includes our government at all levels.  Thank you for encouraging President Obama to invest in Child Nutrition Programs!

Child Nutrition Forum
As we gear up for Child Nutrition Reauthorization 2015, the Child Nutrition Forum* - is circulating a letter (see below) urging President Obama to continue his commitment to the child nutrition programs and efforts to reduce child hunger and obesity by including significant new investments to the programs in his FY2016 budget.

We urge national, state, and local organizations to demonstrate their support for these critical programs by signing onto the letter.

Hunger in America 2014
Feeding America recently conducted the most comprehensive study of hunger in AmericaHunger in America 2014 documents the face of hunger in our country and the critical role that food banks and our partners play in supporting struggling families.

We are proud to be a part of the Feeding America network that serves 5.4 million individuals each week. The people we serve have jobs, raise families, face health issues, serve our country and seek education. Today's face of hunger is hardworking and hopeful.

For more information about the study, visit the Feeding America website. We will release local findings later this month.
