Spring Food Drive

Save the date: May 1st - 22nd, 2014
Our Spring Food Drive kicks off this week on May 1st! Our food barrels will be placed in front of participating grocery stores throughout SLO County to collect donations of non-perishable foods. All items are appreciated but low sodium, low sugar, and whole grains contribute to better health. We are still in need of volunteers for this event so, if you or someone you know is interested in volunteering during our food drive please contact us at (805) 238-4664.

Thank you to our event sponsor:

Stamp Out Hunger

Save the date: May 10, 2014
For the past 22 years on the Saturday before Mother's Day, as our postal carriers bring our mail to us, they collect food we can spare which goes to those in need through a food bank or a food pantry in our community. Remind yourself to put non-perishable, nutritious food out in unbreakable containers early on May 10th where your postal carrier will find it. It will make a difference in the life of a neighbor. It will make a difference in your life, too. Click here to visit their website.
Program Updates

This picture was taken during the Community Helping Hands day of service on April 26th. The event brought more than 200 volunteers to both of our warehouse locations and accomplished a tremendous amount of work within 4 hours. Projects included painting food drive barrels, cleaning trucks, pre-bagging USDA commodities and after school snack packs, and facility repair. All of us at the Food Bank want to thank everyone who participated and made this a successful day!

Food Bank programs had a big presence at the Day of the Child event on Sunday, April 27 in Oceano. This event was an opportunity for us to collaborate with community partners to bring resources to those we serve. Our programs educated the community about CalFresh eligibility requirements, shared information about our children centered food programs: Lovin' Lunch Box and Brilliant Begginins, and facilitated a USDA food distribution which served 79 households in need.

The Noontime Kiwanis of SLO presented this generous donation to us. Their $2,000 gift will provide $20,000 worth of nutritious food!

A Child's Harvest Foundation in Atascadero raised $500 for the Food Bank during their Spring Auction. This will help us provide $5,000 worth of food to those battling hunger.
