Food for Thought...

Greetings!

Judging solely from their need to ask for food, society would probably say that our recipients are not "well off."  It's a horrible term that judges people from the very narrow perspective of material wealth. Most of our recipients have seen better times by this standard, and may indeed return to those times again.  When they do, they will likely be forever changed. We find our recipients are often the greatest inspiration of our day. They have learned the hard way that being "well off" has little to do with wealth and much to do with wisdom, courage, humility, caring, companionship, and gratitude. One such person is featured in my blog this week. I hope you'll find in his story the joy that he has found which might not have been discovered had he not needed the help of others. He reminds us that it's not about money, but peace of mind and nurturing human relationships.

Can't make it to the turkey drive, but still want to help feed a family in need this holiday season, here is how you can help:

  • Donate a frozen turkey at one of our warehouses.  Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 3 PM
  • Donate your extra turkey from a Buy 1, Get 1 Free offer through participating grocery stores.
  • Donate online through our secure system. For every $10, we can provide 1 turkey.
  • Your gift is matched by a grant from B. Wayne Hughes up to $20,000

Our goal is to raise 1,000 turkeys and $10,000. Let's  make sure everyone has a special meal on their table this holiday season.

PG&E Gives Back

PG&E employees kicked off the holiday season with a group glean at SLO Creek Farms on November 2nd.  Together they help to glean 790 lbs of apples.  After gleaning, PG&E volunteers handed out wish list during our Hope for the Holidays food drive on November 3rd. The group helped to bring in over 1,400 lbs and collected $122.
