UNGUARDED:

A conversation with Chris Herren

about drug addiction and recovery

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

7:00 pm

Conestoga High School

Chris Herren, a high school basketball legend who realized his lifelong dream of playing for the Boston Celtics, only to lose it all to alcohol and drug addiction, will be sharing his story with our community.  Link to flyer

Sober since August 1, 2008, he has refocused his life to put his sobriety and family above all else. Chris shares his harrowing story of abuse and recovery in his memoir, Basketball Junkie, as well as in the ESPN documentary Unguarded, of which he is the subject.

The community presentation will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 7pm at Conestoga High School.
  • Middle school students are welcome to attend on Wednesday evening.
  • All Conestoga students will hear from Chris during an assembly on the following Thursday, which will not be open to the community.

This event is co-sponsored by ARCH, TESD, FLITE (Foundation for Learning in Tredyffrin/Easttown), Paoli Wildcats, the Conestoga SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Club, and the Conestoga Student Council.

Nat'l Take Back Day, Sept 27
Race to Nowhere airs on PBS
ARCH is hosting and creating Community Conversations!

More than 100 people came out to hear Karen Moon, LCSW, talk about "Parenting Teens with a Positive Twist."

Karen's talk focused on how parents can positively impact this critical developmental period in our children's lives by identifying and re-focusing on our kids' strengths and resilience.   She emphasized the importance of parents understanding, being present, listening, and making the choice to focus on the positive aspects of a teen's choices and experiences. Karen offered a number of simple take away tips to help incorporate this view point in parents' daily lives and also suggested several mindfulness techniques which are really helpful during periods of parental stress.

Future ARCH Community Conversations will be held on Nov 12, Feb 18 and April 22.  All are welcome.
